The Lovely Miss Yearwood

January XXXIst, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

You know twenty odd years ago when I saw Garth Brooks here in Edmonton I thought, this dude is one hell of a performer & a really nice guy. One of the best audience interactive acts I have ever seen. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to attend any of Garth Brooks shows with his stunning bride the lovely Miss Yearwood due to my limited income. But I sure hope Trish & Garth have a blast with the audiences filled with students & their families. As evidenced by how fast the tickets sold out, I am sure they will.

Dear Dave:

Soccer is great for students & their families to play. However I prefer baseball & football. I can understand the appeal with The World Cup & other tournaments like today's National Hockey League (NHL) All Star Game from Los Angeles, California & how it is a great family atmosphere for families to bond at, but different students are going to have different tastes.

That Should Be Respected,

2. Stephen Khan left the PC Alberta race, Edmonton Journal "columnist" Paula Simons seems to be the only reporter who knew he was even in it.

3. Dickie Starke wants to work with the Wildrose on 95% of issues but not merge, hello Notley Part Deux!

4. Jason Kenney had to suck back an entire canister of oxygen to contain his good fortune. Luckily Steve Harper the asthma sufferer lent him his spare one so Jason could avoid claiming it as a campaign contribution!

Dear Dave:

Here at my late mother June C. Koopmans, B. Ed. fave flower shop is a wealth of floral choices. Mom loved flowers & when attending events she made sure to look into floral & plant choices as gifts that wouldn't cause allergic reactions if she knew in advance that folks at the event were allergic.

Dear Dave:

Why does the Edmonton Catholic School Board not seem to have an affixed & assigned fee schedule? Say so much a month rather than insisting on a flat fee by the year, except for field trips which will be by the trip now. It seems rather annoying for parents to not know.

Reading the Bible is quite fascinating. Thousands of years old these stories & they still have many interesting lessons to teach to students interested in religious studies like the Tanach for those of the Jewish faith for instance, just as books for other religions do. With my Roman Nvmerals obsession I prefer the King James Version while my cousin Steve prefers the New International Version.

"He Stole My Balloons!"

January XXIIIrd, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

My neighbour was kind enough to buy me breakfast this morning as I took her to visit her friend in a seniors lodge yesterday. I do find it annoying that McD's leaves the balloons near the toys in many locations. Here the students & younger kids are popping the balloons, even close to senior citizens & other customers who are trying to enjoy their meal. Some of these folks have medical issues & some have one foot in the grave & are half past dead so this might be their only outing of the day, so the loud sounds can be quite upsetting. Sure if it is part of say a kids birthday party or outside then exploding the balloons is fine, but not here.

Frightening,

Whether you are for or against the election of XLVth President Of The United States Of America Donald John Trump, Republican-New York, you must respect that it is a nice & respectful/peaceful transition of power from one administration to the next. Dear Dave:

Car washes are very good of course for both cleaning of the interior & exterior of vehicles. Having respiratory issues my whole life I usually avoid going to the coin washes. It would be nice if the car wash gave out disposable masks to folks & their children who have breathing difficulties when they come in. I mean the masks are on hand for employees, so this makes sense & would be at a very low cost.

January XVIIIth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

On this the Vth Anniversary of my mother's death on Wednesday, January XVIIIth, MMXII, I am reminded that Mrs. June C. Koopmans, B. Ed., would want me to have a stiff upper lip, then a pot of tea, Earl Grey, HOT & scones in her honour & get the quotes from the candidates for Conservative Party Of Canada Leader done. As he has just joined the race, we have Candidate Kevin O'Leary out of alphabetical sequence with a comment on jobs being brought into Canada instead of being shipped out. As a businessman, this makes sense to Kev & many Canadians.

"It's official. I'm in. The Conservative Party Of Canada needs a candidate who can beat Justin Trudeau & bring back jobs to this country."

January XVth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA

Dear Dave:

Social Studies courses to me seem rather weak. There seems to be an even greater emphasis on not learning facts & historical dates & events, but instead on getting students to reveal their emotions on how events make them feel. This doesn't seem relevant to me, I mean here we are erasing Sir John A. Macdonald our First Prime Minister from the sawbuck in favour of some activist no one really cares about. While I'm sure it is important for female empowerment issues, it would be better to place the activist on a coin & ensure that our Prime Ministers, especially the one that started it all are so honoured, as well as the reigning Sovereign!

Dear Dave:

You know normally I would never interrupt a theme week at Executive Dissertations, but for the class human being & polite gentleman Larry Langley, I'm going to make an exception.

Larry was gracious when he accepted gifts of furniture for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) auctions for various charitable endeavours from our family furniture store. He was extremely adept at working under pressure when doing the weather once the amazing Larry Branter retired & was more than able to anchor CBC Edmonton newscasts once the superb Alec Moir quit as anchor. When asked to take a reduced role when Joanne Stefanyk took over & then eventually stand away, Larry did so without any hatred or malice. Just an absolutely professional talent & wonderful guy. I'm ever so sad for Sharon & his family. They should keep in kind that 83 is one heck of a run & Larry lived his life to the fullest. One of my favourite memories was when as a family one Sunday for a CBC charity function, Larry & the intrepid Colin Maclean gave us a guided tour of the then south side CBC Edmonton studios, which is why I write from the south side in tribute today!

Editor's Note: CBXT Edmonton is the IInd CBC network in YEG as CFRN which is now a CTV affiliate was a CBC station when it first went on air so MotherCorp has a rich history in Edmonton!

Dear Dave:

Why is it that with the rules surrounding LED lighting that some older schools have not been switched over to the new bulbs. I had a Parkland County Principal tell me this when I was chatting with another school administrator at the Spruce Grove Tim Hortons earlier today. Still other schools have lights without shields protecting them, thus risking breaking glass falling & students/staff/parents below. I don't judge LED lights & I certainly don't like them as the sale of each bulb only makes the fat liar Al Gore richer, I just why there isn't full compliance in the matter of them being changed over in schools.

While it is nice for kids to have a tv area to hang out in & watch cartoons & toys to play with & books to read at the employment centres, it  can also be bad. After all, the noise volume from the tv can distract job searchers who are talking to employment centre applications or filling our applications/job searching on nearby computers. It is a showcase once a year for our military & I was most delighted to sign over a post card to a soldier in the Ukrainian theatre. It is a great public event for getting students interested in a career in Her Majesty's Royal Canadian Armed Forces of The Dominion Of Canada or a law enforcement agency!
