"There's No Business Like Snow Business!"

April XXIVth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA
Minister of Education,
New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

I can appreciate how stressful this late season April snow is for students & their families. The key of course is that at both home & in & around schools that those cleaning it up not only get the top layer, but the slush underneath. This will ensure less slipping & sliding by students & others, & therefore lessen overall injury levels.

Tommy Douglas-Candidate Stogran

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

April XXIIIrd, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

A retired & honourable Colonel of Her Majesty's Royal Canadian Army, we have Federal New Democratic Leadership Candidate Pat Stogran discuss how running today's NDP will help him be an advocate to help both veterans & active duty Canadian service personnel. Arguably, he has many connections & would help students who are thinking of a military career.

"I recognize that the problems that are facing veterans are actually facing Canadians at large. It starts with a government that's ambivalent & intransigent. Incompetent really."

Alberta Law & Order Day

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., 15902-100A Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5P 0L8

April XXIInd, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

As it is "Law Day" here in Alberta & at the Calgary & Edmonton courthouses, it might be wise for the Edmonton Police Service who investigate crime to put up pictures & videos of the clothing in the courthouses so that students & families participating in the court activities can perhaps assist in the matter of the poor dead toddler found in Castledowns. I just can't imagine how sad an ending to his life that defenseless little gaffer had, so unfair! The idea makes great sense as the courthouse is just what a block or two over from Downtown Division HQ & EPS Homicide/Behavioural/Police Spokesperson Units can use any & all help possible!

In addition to putting video of the clothing items of the toddler on the big screen at the Edmonton Oilers Watch Party for their charity (Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation) at Game VI (6) tonight, the police should air the pics of the clothing items several times on the screen on Monday night for Game #7 (if necessary.) As well as any future home & away games for a potential Round #2 against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim & beyond.

Also calling upon the Edmonton Eskimos, Edmonton Prospects, the Oilers, & other sports teams to put this information would also be wise since many Edmontonians enjoy multiple sporting endeavours.

I would also call upon Cineplex Theatres (TM) across the city to allow for pictures, videos, as well as Public Service Announcements to be made on this matter. Feature film theatre presentations would be an ideal venue for the police to get help as they effectively help them recruit officers. Just as they recruit future members of Her Majesty's Royal Canadian Armed Forces.

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

We pick any day, just one, & history comes alive, even on this April XXIst (21st.)

I. The Communards are defeated this day in combat by Emperor Charles Ist in MDXXI (1521.)

II. In MDCLIV (1654), England & Sweden sign a trade agreement.

III. At the Battle Of Mondovi, Napoleon & the French Army defeat the Piedmontese in MDCCXCVI (1796.)

IV. In MDCCCLXV (1865) Abraham Lincoln's funeral train back to Illinois for burial leaves Washington, District Of Columbia.

V. A fire at Ohio State Penitentiary kills CCCXXXII (332) in MCMXXX (1930.)

VI. In MMXIII (2013) the Paraguayan Presidential Election, Horatio Cartes is declared elected.

With the prices of everything going up & gasoline & other fuels to get to & from Oilers games & family sporting events climbing higher, it is smart to resort to Www.GasBuddy.Com. Dear Dave:

I am very pleased that not only does Edmonton Public Library (EPL) have links to magazines online, but actual physical copies of many of these same magazines in their branch locations. Having both formats make sense so that if more that one library patron needs to look at the same issue at the same time there will be no squabbling. Plus magazines can be great references for student usage!

The "Dwarf" Planet Pluto is quite fascinating.

I. Pluto has indeed been visited by one spacecraft.

II. Pluto is smaller than a number of moons, including Earth's.

III. Pluto is 1/3rd water.

IV. Pluto was reclassified from "planet" to "dwarf planet" in MMVI.

Hiding Out In Fort Calgary

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Fort Edmonton Park Courtesy Wifi, Edmonton, Alberta

April XVIIth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

It seems rather odd to me that your colleague, the Honourable New Democratic Gentleman IV Calgary-Fort is hiding out in Fort Calgary from his fiduciary duties as Her Majesty's Government's Minister of Finance & Provincial Treasurer. If Minister Joe Ceci, B. S. W., M. S. W., MLA is upset that he is being pressured to appear before the Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings & Trust Fund run by AIMco because he is embarrassed that his background in social work (rather than finance) is an impediment, he shouldn't be. What is especially embarrassing I must say I find it frustrating that when I attend the Annual Public Hearing that a man whose cabinet salary I pay personally through my tax dollars doesn't even show up to be accountable to the public & answer their investment questions.

A first supplemental if I may Dave. If Minister Ceci would feel more comfortable, he could bring along a Deputy Minister of Finance from the Treasury Department who has an accounting &/or finance designation or both. In this way, they could answer queries in a tandem. Also, it would have the added bonus of making it so the Minister wasn't looking like he had anything to hide. Of course he's got 71 billion reasons so far why he is hiding (& that is according to his own budgetary line-item estimates.)

The second supplemental would be is why is the public only allowed to attend one meeting of this committee a year? E. Peter Lougheed ran the Heritage Fund Committee as totally open & the public could attend its meetings whenever & wherever they met. Let us open the meetings up again, after all, my taxes pay for the cost of the Committee Room & extra wages MLAs get for sitting on the committee.

Pro-Life Versus Pro-Choice Versus Pro-fessional

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Queen Elizabeth The IInd Highway South Wendy's/Tim Horton's Courtesy Wifi, Red Deer, Alberta

April XIth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave;

I agree with the always adroit Dr. Cristina Stasia (gosh she is a nice lady) on this matter of the extremist "pro-life" video comparing abortion to The Holocaust. The subtext of how Ecole Notre Dame Secondaire High School here in palatial Red Deer handled the airing of the video & its consequences is actually worse than the United Airlines security procedures for removing passengers with valid tickets (yes this is possible.)

Now as I have stated to the good lady Dr. Cristina & others, I am not "pro-life" nor am I "pro-choice." I am not a medical officer of health or expert (like the poor doctor beaten & dragged off the United Airlines flight), so I would feel uncomfortable in stating an opinion until I have heard from all sides backed by medical documentation & testimonials from women who have had, or were thinking of having an abortion before I could be a fair judge of anything. As well as perhaps their children &/or friends/families who faced this similar decision.

What the Red Deer Catholic Schools Division & Ecole Notre Dame administration & Red Deer Pro-Life should have done is to present a video that favours the "pro-life" option to students & another video of an equal length that showcases the "pro-choice" argument. Or one video with points in favour of either at an exactly equal amount so that students could make up their own minds, no tactical advantage whatsoever. I would have also removed all references to Auschwitz & concentration camps/holocaust. As the son of a refugee from The Netherlands who escaped the totalitarian Nazi regime & whose birth country was liberated by Canadian Armed Forces, I take great offense at the holocaust commentary being added in!

Pro-Fairness,

An "Actual Combat" Baby

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Main Floor Edmonton City Hall Courtesy Wifi. Edmonton, Alberta

April IXth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Who better than I can understand the sacrifices of Canadians made during WWI & Vimy Ridge? Especially as my birthday is November XIth, MCMLXXIV (11th, 1974), the day in MCMXVIII (1918) that signifies the official end of this historical & horrid conflict, which makes my birth at Royal Alexandra Hospital that of an "actual combat" baby.

Every year I attend Remembrance Day Ceremonies (I get a pass the day I was born as I was in an incubator) to remember the sacrifices that great young men & women made in WWI, WWII, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan & many other conflicts. When I see the stupidity of war, I hope & pray that humans are not going to be so idiotic as to start up WWIII. History students must know that we need peace in the world, not killing. Although in the case of Vimy, I can see why on occasion war is a necessary evil.

6-6 pack is the number of beers for in a regular standard pack for sale to watch the National Hockey League (NHL) Playoffs & cheer on the Edmonton Oilers.

66- the number Mario Lemieux wore when he played for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

666-the stated triad number of Satan or as Dana Carvey's "The Church Lady" calls him: "Santa."

Here at Hap's Hungry House & at other restaurants the servers are all wearing footwear that makes their feet comfortable. It is especially important for students to know that if they take on part or full time status at a restaurant that they should wear shoes that keep them as pain free as possible, especially when these jobs involve constant standing on your feet throughout the whole shift. Two staff are wearing orthotic shoes as they are protecting their arches, another has runners on. Still another has an orthotic support in her right shoe.

Fish are quite fascinating. There are more undiscovered secrets in our planet's waters than in outer space some scientists say & I believe this is true.

A. Some fish can actually live on land for several days free of any water.

B. Swordfish, tuna, & some shark species can have times where they are warm-blooded which is odd as fish are basically cold-blooded.

C. Cave-art quite often depicts fish as these creatures are highly respected for their beauty & being able to provide sustenance.

A trait in many comedians who when I have been in clubs are constantly mocking each other & calling one another not funny in a light-hearted tone. March XXXth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Talk about embarrassing, the guy that was the only candidate for Alberta Liberal Party Leader quits only 51 hours before the filing deadline. So he would have been acclaimed & he quits! Something is fishy in the H2O political science students. My feeling that it is secret negotiations led by Steve Mandel & Tommy Lukaszuk who are upset that Mr. Jason Kenney won the command deck chair of PC Alberta (fair & square I point out to the LGBTQ crowd.)

These negotiations are to merge the Alberta Liberals (the party that fun forgot), disaffected Progressive Conservatives, Greens, & New Democrats fed up with a lack of cabinet access into the Alberta Party led by Greg Clark. Or perhaps another choice.

1. Tommy Lukaszuk: Shoved & shouted at a Wildrose supporter & senior citizen who shoved him first so no charges were laid by either party. Cheated in his battle with Alberta Liberal candidate Chris Kibermanis in Round 1 who won the MLA job away from Thomas, PC's just found a good Tory appointed judge to overturn the result. Plus blew what 200,000$ on cell phone calls when email is free to support a backbench Tory MLA having personal problems, & got fired as Deputy Premier by Ally Redford. I mean how bad a cabinet minister must you be to be fired by the XIVth premierus wonderchildus?

2. Steve Mandel: Fully vindicated now on the arena matter since the Edmonton Oilers are playoff bound & about to become the next Chancellor of Concordia University, wouldn't it be sad if Steve had to give up that chancellorship to become leader of such a hodgepodge to avoid a conflict of interest?

Dear Dave:

I myself am not particularly adept at numbers like quite a few aspergers syndrome afflicted persons. Its quite embarrassing to me really so I don't mind quadratics where some letters are in the equations. Of course I cover off my disability by using dating in Roman Nvmerals so as to not lose track of the days & it helps me a lot because the letters are both letters & numbers to me simultaneously. I like mathematical equations but I prefer them along with pictures that relate to the equation(s.) I am sure that there are many other students who are the same way.

March XXVth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA
Minister of Education,
New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Your argument against the II private Christian schools not welcoming Gay/Straight Alliance Clubs (GSAs) has more holes in its argument than a block of Swiss cheese. Thus making your ministerial order seem like an even bigger joke. Furthermore the school admin. & legal reps have tried to meet with you for II years & you won't even listen to them, let alone meet, this shows intolerance. If no student has asked for a GSA, & according to all school records none has, then the two schools have a valid human rights complaint against Her Majesty's New Democratic Government & you & the Department of Education in particular. If I was Pastor Coldwell, or even their lawyer Mr. Carpay, I would take this & fight your ministerial order all the way in open court as a Human Rights Commission matter, both provincially & federally. That being said I am in favour of the GSAs, just not the way you are forcing them so violently on people & would tie you up in courts for years & cost taxpayers untold cash. Even if Pastor Coldwell lost the legal battle, he'd lock in an even stronger Christian conservative base against you. You remind me of the reject Ed Stelmach & his forcing of the terrible land-use bylaws on people. A horrible thing for Ed to do & as a farmer he should have known better. Shades of communism by both you & Farmer Ed to be sure!

I find it annoying when using the fax machines in library branches that the staff have to take the handset off so that people don't make personal phone calls. Now library faxes only allow you to dial personal & 1-800 numbers so they don't pay for that cost, but students & adults tying up these lines (which taxpayers fund) prevent me & other library patrons from being able to access these machines for legitimate faxing needs such as job applications &/or searches.

Faux Fax,

Rory

Dear Dave:

Finding the right physiotherapist after say a student related school sports injury is important. The wrong physiotherapist can cause the injury to become even worse, especially if they don't have the right certification or misdiagnose the correct pressure points/injury to work on. WePhysio for instance is known for its excellent treatment of patients.

"A Two Minute Game Panel Would You Please Lead Off Betty?"

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

March XXIInd, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

I'm just advising you that its a national story & that sadly that there was loss of life in the story (like the sophisticated host/moderator Fred Davis would in his superb voice) one last time as the great Betty Kennedy, a brilliant journalist (leaving just Allan Fotheringham left as the last legendary member of the panel) on "Front Page Challenge" from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) News Division has died at 91. Author & Historian Pierre Berton, Betty, excellent journalists like Gordon Sinclair, Jack Webster, & Toby Robins are all gone now.

Betty with her style of asking broadcast quality questions on radio was an absolutely perfect fit for the show & added a nice air of femininity to an otherwise all male show. 27 years as a radio host in Toronto at CFRB is a remarkable run in addition to her writing & tv appearances, newspaper columns. Definitely a quality Canadian journalist of the old school. I met Betty & the "Front Page" gang in MCMXCV (1995) when they taped one of their last sets of shows here in Edmonton. Fred Davis had a friend here in the business & he got clearance from the CBC National News Department to do something never done before in "Front Page" history & never repeated & this was to tape 4 shows back to back. It was quite enthralling to see the panel ask queries & try to pin down each of the "mystery guests." Yes Betty Kennedy, a journalist/broadcaster/writer always at her finest.

Dear Dave;

When buying a home or other such real estate, students studying real estate should know that it is good to have an inspection by a certified home inspector as well as contractors/trades persons look into making sure the abode is habitable before buying. The seller should also be aware of deficiencies & be prepared to fix them as best as possible before even considering selling.

The Meeting

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

March XXth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

So Brian Jean of the Wildrose & Jason Kenney of PC Alberta are meeting today to discuss getting their two parties merged. Political Students will note:

I. They have to agree on a timeline for merging.

II. They also have to agree to make overtures to Nolan Crouse once he becomes Alberta Liberal Party Leader. Nolan will bring fiscally Blue Liberal MLAs to the Alberta Legislature in the Paul Martin style, maybe 6-8. This total could be enough to nullify a combined conservative merged party & thus keep Premier Rachel Notley & the NDP in power another term.

III. If Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark was smart he'd try to enter negotiations as per the idea of Rev. William Wade Izzard of the Universal Life Church Canada First Nations Youth Outreach Ministries (& Edmonton-Centre Federal Liberal Candidate wanting to take the seat over from Randy Boissonnault, MP) & merge with Nolan to prevent him from combining with PC's & Wildrose.

Reforestation

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

March XIXth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Forests give us the wood we need to build the homes & infrastructure of the future. A lesson surely learned in the Slave Lake & Fort Mac forest fires & by me as I luckily had no apartment damage unlike some of my neighbours so can move back into my building.

Forestry 1010 lets students understand how forests can be very helpful to city, both to animals & other creatures, as well as humans.

Forestry 1090 teaches students about the different forest types across Canada.

Forestry 2010 gives students the opportunity to learn about how to protect forests & their surrounding ecosystem.

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

It seems appropriate to me that Executive Dissertations completes its quotes from Federal New Democratic Party Leader Candidates, especially on a day when the Progressive Conservative Association Of Alberta (PC Alberta) is choosing its next Leader in Cowtown to replace Interim Leader Ric McIver. So we ask Peter Julian for his vision on the matter of having real conversations with students who might be first time voters & their voting families.

"I've had hundreds of conversations & still have a lot of conversations to come."

Tommy Douglas-Candidate Caron

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Jasper Place Public Library Terminal #VIII, Edmonton, Alberta

March XVIIth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Federal New Democratic Party Leader Candidate Guy Caron establishes his thoughts on being fair to entrepreneurs, something your provincial NDP government should consider with the job killing taxes & businesses leaving Alberta, thus destroying many families. Gosh i hope Guy forgives me for writing in vert but this is Saint Patrick's Day after all so I must of course stay true to form!

"What I find most discouraging is that once again our entrepreneurs will have to pay the price."
