In Her Own Words

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

October XXXIst, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

You know its rather spooky how on Nathan Cooper, MLA, Wildrose, Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills is on these terribly short Alberta Legislature sessions are. I completely agree as your caucus colleague, the Hon. Rachel Notley, B.A., LL.B., MLA, Premier, President of the Executive Council, & Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs & Relations, New Democratic, Edmonton-Strathcona almost seems to be hiding, almost as if she was above others.

Exhibit 1: The Sheriffs & security wouldn't even let me shake the Premier's hand after the Premier Prentice funeral, even after I drove three hours to get there & was tired & sad for the Prentice family. No one got to, she was rushed out. Why in the hell is there a sense of urgency? I mean, I'm on a first name basis with Rachel & this is documented (have been for years) & have shaken her hand quite a few times since she became Premier! The fact is, I shook hands with the other Former Premiers & Former Prime Ministers & Former Lieutenant Governors there, as well as our current Lt. Gov. Lois Mitchell. I thought her remarks were beyond excellent & yet she wasn't talking to anyone after the funeral, she just was whisked away. It was a Friday afternoon, why the rush? Its almost like she was afraid to talk to people!

Exhibit 2: Brian Jean, LL. B., B. Sc., M.B.A., QC, MLA, the Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Official Opposition, Wildrose, Fort McMurray-Conklin didn't miss a beat. He was shaking hands & mingling & reminiscing about the distinguished late Former Premier, as were the five candidates that have declared for the PC Alberta leadership. All this despite the fact Brian had to attend his party convention in Red Deer on Friday & Saturday. The Wildrose leader certainly wasn't hiding!

Exhibit 3: Before getting elected, before the swearing in, & after she assumed office as the XVIIth Premier, Rachel said she favoured sitting more days a year, longer sittings, even five days a week when necessary, more hours a day & more weeks of the calendar year. Yet we now face the unprecedented situation wherein Her Majesty's New Democratic Government is actually holding less sitting days in the calendar year, & also shorter sessions than the previous Progressive Conservative administrations of over four straight decades in power. I ask you, why Dave is that? You are at the cabinet table, why the secrecy?! The NDP says it has no agenda, by sitting less days & forcing it down people's throats (ramming), it makes out of work Albertans even more hostile to the overall plans of the government!

Why Can't You & Rachel See That?,

Rory

The Kitchen Cabinet: The Secretary Of Transportation

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

October XXXth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

For U.S. Secretary Of Transportation Anthony Foxx, a focus to transportation & engineering students on the right to choose what transportation you feel is best. As a former big city Mayor of Charlotte, this fine North Carolinian Tony knows the importance of transportation grid sector issues first hand. And his comments relate to some quite poorly planned by The City of Edmonton, Plan Edmonton & the low intelligence losers at Edmonton Transit who couldn't plan to build an outhouse, let alone an light rail transit system without a twenty million dollar consultants report (plus gst & carbon tax grab!)

"The key word for transportation in the XXIst (21st) is choice."

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Congresswoman Janice Hahn of California campaigns on the issue of college affordability. Janice is campaigning it should be noted, but for the position/office of Los Angeles County District Supervisor rather than another term in Congress. But with a Bachelor Of Science in Education, she is well-positioned to comment on this matter.

"We should make sure that students know they have options for affordable, quality education at community colleges, public universities & elsewhere."

October XXVIIIth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

An Editor's Note: To begin with today, the service here for the late Premier Jim Prentice was very dignified & respectful.

In terms of Halloween costumes you do have to make sure your kids & any adults going to All Hallows Eve parties get costumes that are tasteful. Some people might be offended at what you or your kids wear. of course others will love it & all you can do is the best you can. Do what makes you &/or your kids happy!

October XXVIIth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

As someone who works private security & bouncer jobs myself, its not often I applaud Edmonton City Council & agree with people like Ward X Councillor Michael Walters. On this one he got it right however & students in security, police, or armed forces training need to take note. Portable metal detectors are being installed inside City Hall Main Council Chambers & can be moved around when councillors are in committee meetings instead. Plus a glass partition is being placed in the chambers separating the Mayor & Council from the audience. As someone who has never made threats like this against a public official myself & have run for office too I have a rather unique perspective & I am indeed very proud that Edmonton City Council is doing this. It is a sad indictment on the world that even our City officials feel the need for this added security, but students of the political game must realized its totally justified. Our democratically elected, & let me point that out "elected" public officials & City administrators should be kept safe at all times, as should the audience. They are human beings like anyone else with families, friends, & loved ones & they should be able to do their job in safety & comfort 24/7 so that the business of Her Majesty's Edmontonian Civic Government can be conducted & administered properly through its daily routine. People can argue & disagree with council members, but they should do so in a respectful & professional manner! The only question I have is, will they be Mike Nickel plated?

Thanks Mike,

Rory

October XXVth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

A commentary from U.S. Secretary Of Health & Human Services Sylvia Burwell on spiraling health care costs. An issue that is occurring here in Alberta & other jurisdictions with the flood of refugees coming in & needing their health care issues looked after, causing many Canadians to have to wait even longer for their own procedures. As well as a huge population of seniors, many of whom are living longer but with very poor life quality, thus overburdening their families, including West Virginians, Sylvia's home state. This is of course leading to governments offloading costs for free public services onto citizens.

It Is Clearly The Purvue Of The Right Honourable Gentleman For Papineau

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., 15902-100A Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5P 0L8

October XXIVth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Now the way I read this in regards to the federal byelection in Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner today (& students of electoral politics I hope will contact me if I'm wrong) & in the upcoming byelections to be held in Calgary-Heritage & Calgary-Midnapore, it is up to the Right Honourable Gentleman for Papineau, a Mr. Justin Trudeau, Liberal to go to His Excellency The Right Honourable The Governor-General David Johnston to go & ask for the byelection writs to be dropped. Just as it was the responsibility of the Former Right Honourable Gentleman for Calgary-Heritage, a Mr. Stephen Harper, Conservative (then Calgary-Southwest before the writ dropped) to go to the same Governor-General to have the regular election writ dropped in MMXV.

Mr. Trudeau in his capacity as Leader Of The Liberal Party/Parti Of Canada might from then a tactical standpoint only want to call one byelection at a time say two weeks apart & go see the Governor-General twice. The Liberals are not going to snatch away a Calgary seat who last occupant was a Conservative Leader & Prime Minister. But they may have a shot at Mr. Kenney's old seat. Plus splitting the byelections into two different election dates will ensure that Elections Canada does its usual superb job in terms of providing a clean & accurately counted election which only paper ballots can produce. Plus it would save the Liberals & any challengers for the seat from having to split limited resources over two separate ridings whereas staggering those resources will let them maximize them to the full in both. I have been an Elections Canada employee in several regular elections & one byelection but for the record I am not here. Nor am I affiliated with any federal party that might want to run a candidate, or has already nominated a candidate in the two Calgary byelections to come. All I want to do is give every candidate an = chance of winning or losing, based on their own merits once the respective byelection writs are in fact dropped!

If there could be a happy medium established between the private Christian schools in Spruce Grove & your office. So the U.S. Secretary of Commerce is named Penny Pritzker, how appropriate. I ask Penny this fine day to give students a comment on training people properly. Dear Dave:

Trying to drum up the economy are the new owners of Roman's Family Restaurant. Roman's is now open past 4PM when many other area restaurants close as they focus on just the breakfast/lunch crowd. This is great as the service is second to none & management is putting serving staff & cooking staff to work, thus providing extra hours & thus wages for employees. Great management & great staff, the waitresses here are beyond excellent & very friendly. I was in here a few weeks ago with my cousin & her wife & their boy, as well as another couple of gents and their surrogate twin daughters. So its a great restaurant for the support of the LGBTQ & transgender community & would be a worthwhile place for these families, for all families to hang out in evenings to go for a superb meal. A nice variety of food items from breakfast thru supper seven days a week with affordable prices, I wish Roman's much success for years to come!

October XVIIIth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Some interesting factoids about the number "18" as its October 18th or XVIIIth today.

18-0. The War of "18"12 MDCCCXII was declared official in that year but didn't have its first conflict until "18"13 or MDCCCXIII.

18-1. Actor & comedian & Academy Award (TM) Winner George Burns was 92 when he made the film "18 Again!"

18-2. The Hebrew word for life or chai has 18 as its value. Which means the number is good luck & is associated with hoping people live a good long life.

18-3. 18th President Of The United States Of America Ulysses Simpson Grant, Republican-Illinois was an outstanding Civil War General for the Union. Also the novel "Ulysses" by James Joyce has 18 chapters.

18-4. 18 degrees fahrenheit converts to -7.77778 degrees centigrade.

18-5.
"I'm Eighteen" was shock rocker Alice Cooper's first Top 10 rock single.

Eighteen,

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Here at Londonderry EPL & at other branches in shopping centres, the washrooms are located separately from the branch. Some employees say its a safety factor, I for one would argue that the placement of at least two washrooms in every branch, whether stand alone or in a shopping centre would be better. After all, there are library patrons including students who have medical &/or mobility issues who have a heck of a struggle walking so far to get to an exterior washroom, which may or may not be in use &/or working when they get there.

Dear Dave:

I was at Edmonton City Hall today for the Utility Committee Meeting on Epcor water rate proposals & had not heard about the death of former Premier Jim Prentice & his fellow passengers by plane in British Columbia last night until the Committee broke for lunch at High Noon. So I walked due to the lack of cabs & buses downtown because of the inclement weather over here to the Alberta Legislature Cafe to have a memorial luncheon in honour of the former Premier, of course I sat in Premier Lougheed's old chair to show Head Of Her Majesty's Governmental respect. What can I say about Jim & to Karen & the family but sorry. He held the office of Premier for such a short time, but the point is: HE HELD THE OFFICE OF PREMIER & THAT HAS TO BE RESPECTED! Jim was so eloquent at Manmeet Bhullar's funeral as the Master of Ceremonies just XI months ago in Calgary. I wonder who will stand up to honour the former Premier. I think Steve Harper might be the best choice!

Dear Dave:

People say there are a lot of useless civil servants who are overpaid (think Alberta Health Services & its expanding management & constantly dipping of patient care.) But former Edmonton-Glenora Liberal MLA Howard Sapers (the provincial riding I live in & thats looked after the very capable Hon. Sarah Hoffman, B. A., B. Bed., M. A., M. Ed., Deputy Premier & Minister of Health, New Democratic, Edmonton-Glenora currently), the Federal Correctional Investigator isn't one of them. After the loss of his dear wife in a car accident, Howard picked himself up, dusted himself off & moved to Ottawa for a fresh start for himself & his family. He delivers quality reports, he delivers a superb message, & he cuts through the crap to get things done & mistakes & errors reported honestly. Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA
Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Ever the diplomat & the MMIV contender for the Democratic Party for the Presidency Of The United States, we have Secretary Of State John Kerry. Johnny has to parlay any & all sides into getting frameworks for peace & other matters together. Arguably the job can be at points even more difficult than being The Chief Executive. A Vietnam War veteran itself, the Secretary truly knows aspects of both war & peace as he comments on both matters in this Presidential campaign cycle without actually interfering or stating his choice for President. That is what a Secretary Of State does, negotiate. It is The President that makes war or peace. An Editor's Note: I myself am partial to the latter.

"I saw courage in both the Vietnam War & in the struggle to stop it. I learned that patriotism includes protest, not just military service."

Dear Dave:

About to achieve my late mom June's (a teacher) goal for me of 357 high school credits or "3 consecutive odd numbers son", we have Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard of California raising the issue of academic success & strong focus for students in the classroom.

"I believe that we must do everything we can to encourage the academic success of our nation's students."

"A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand!"-Mr. Royce

October Ist, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Here Congressman Ed Royce of California teams up to campaign with the super actor & Academy Award (TM) Winner Morgan Freeman against shark finning, a horribly brutal practice. Students interested in oceanography & marine life should applaud Eddie's efforts.

"Shark finning, which leaves these animals to die a slow & painful death at the bottom of the ocean, is a cruel practice that needs to be stopped."

Los Angeles,

Rory
