"A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand!"-Mr. Davidson-Ohio VIIIth Redux

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

June XXVIIIth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

This past June VIIth you could say "everything old is new again." On that day three weeks ago today, Congressman Warren Davidson was elected as the new Member Of Congress for Ohio's VIIIth District, & then sworn in June IXth by current House Speaker Paul Ryan, replacing former Congressman & House Speaker John Boehner. As a result, Executive Dissertations is facing the extraordinary happenstance of having to write 436 quotes for the 114th Congress, despite the fact that there are only 435 House seats. Warren won a "Special Election" for the information of political science students. Having run in the Canadian equivalent called a "Byelection" for both Edmonton Public School Board & Ward XII Edmonton City Council back to back recently, I can understand where Warren is coming from. So we ask him why he decided to run for office in the first place.

"I am running for Congress because I love this country with a soldier's passion, & I want to reestablish principles that built it."

Cincinnati,

Rory

Dear Dave:

We have New York Congresswoman Nita Lowey bringing up her agenda item of being respectful of volunteers. Volunteering can be important for students to put on their resume as it provides them connections & a start in life.

"Volunteers give so much of themselves to help those in need."

Dear Dave:

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos of Illinois has taken an initiative in the area of high quality in education. Since she has three sons, Cheri is aware of this right at the classroom level.

June XXVth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

An Editor's Note: It was great to run into you & your very lovely bride Somboon at the North YEG Cineplex as I was leaving & you were entering to see the new Civil War flick "Free State Of Jones" with Academy Award (TM) Winner Matthew McConaughey. Although while they called it "Civil" when its now 800 thousand dead at last count (& still rising) is beyond me!

Head of a Committee of bipartisan Members Of Congress looking into sport brain injuries is Florida Congressman Tom J. Rooney. Tommy like any parent wants to do his best to protect his own son from possible traumatic brain injury as he takes up contact football in a school or after school football setting. This will make the National Football League (NFL) & the Canadian Football League (CFL) which just started its season last night more aware of the need to put in better protections for players.

"I want my son to have the same experiences that I had, & I know its impossible to eliminate all of the risks playing sports, contact or noncontact. Still, although we cannot banish risk completely, we can ensure that helmets & other equipment, as well as medical assessment protocols, meet the highest safety standards for our kids as well as for professional athletes in the NFL."

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,

Rory

P. S.: People should watch the great Academy Award (TM) Nominee Will Smith film "Concussion" on this matter. With stand out performances from Academy Award (TM) Nominee Alec Baldwin & Academy Award (TM) Nominee Albert Brooks.

June XXIIIrd, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Caldet

Dear Dave:

We have Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke & as he & fellow Democratic House Of Representatives Members are staging "a sit-in" or a "fillibuster" in the House Chamber yesterday & into today. One of the very many rights in a democracy that students interested in politics should be made aware of. The Democrats want a vote on gun control measures while the Republican majority don't & it has Dems protesting in the Chamber, despite the fact the Republicans have shut it down or called a "recess" with their majority until after July IVth, MMXVI, America's Independence Day. We have Beto explain the sit-in strategy & why he feels its important for his team to do it.

"I want what we do here to be worthy of the people we represent."

Dear Dave:

Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Pitts tends to believe that many schools in his state & around America are struggling, just as many schools in older & mature neighbourhoods of say here in Edmonton are. The topic is appropriate what with nine new Edmonton Public Schools named yesterday.

Dear Dave:

From "the land of Lincoln", we have Congressman Adam Kinzinger of Illinois illustrating a point on compassion, a great topic area for students to learn about. While not a dad himself, its good we hear from Adam because on this Fathers Day Sunday, kids need to learn about compassion from their dad's or other strong male father figures.

"Americans in general have a lot of compassion, we just don't always have that same view of how compassion is implemented."

June XIIth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

The comments of Supreme Court Of The United States (SCOTUS) Mister Associate Justice Samuel Alito, Jr. relate to on being able to think & reason. He feels that when presented with matters, then the Congress should be able to reason it out equally to that of SCOTUS. Therefore, Sammy is saying legislative branch reasoning is equal to that or equivalent of judiciary branch reasoning. I cannot presume that he means the executive branch reasoning of government (meaning the President & the Cabinet) because it is not contained in the quote.

This seems appropriate what with both the the National Basketball Association (NBA) & National Hockey League (NHL) Championship Final Series occurring right now. Dear Dave:

Florida Congressman Dennis A. Ross on supporting Republican Candidate for the Presidency Of The United States Of America Donald Trump. Denny like his liberal counterpart backed another candidate but also like the Member Of Congress featured yesterday wants to show party loyalty & disagrees with his leader, House Speaker Paul Ryan, Republican-Wisconsin & will back Mr. Trump as he has the delegate count. In the interests of giving absolutely no tactical advantage to the left or the right, & the promotion of "exactly = time" for all sides, I am featuring a comment from a comment from a Congress Member from each party.

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Grant MacEwan University Harvey's Courtesy Wifi, Edmonton, Alberta

June VIIth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Having just attended Question Period yesterday afternoon, then night session until just past midnight last night, & today's AM closing session of the Alberta Legislature so I could say I worked all three shifts with the MLAs, you get to notice a few things about the night shift that political science students might find interesting. Also, they are things you don't see on day shift.

I. Jason Nixon, MLA, Wildrose, Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre temporarily resigned from his caucus to sit on the Government benches & serves as Minister of Finance & President of the Treasury Board in place of the Hon. Joe Ceci, B. S. W., M. S. W., MLA, New Democratic, Calgary-Fort.

II. Contrary to popular belief, Heather Sweet, MLA, New Democratic, Edmonton-Manning when acting as Chair of the Committee of the Whole & pouring her coffee uses sugar & not "sweet"ener as per the political rumour mill.

III. The Hon. Sarah Hoffman, B. A., B. Ed., M. A., M. Ed., MLA, Deputy Premier & Minister of Health, New Democratic, Edmonton-Glenora saves taxpayers considerable expense by shopping at Dollarama for evening snacks & Fishermens Friend cough tablets for yourself as even your throat is so dry & parched because even you can barely "swallow" the New Democratic Government carbon tax policy (sales tax in disguise, albeit open disguise.)

IV. David Swann, MD, B. MSc., FRSC, MLA, Liberal, Calgary-Mountain View resigned as Alberta Liberal Leader temporarily so that Jessica Littlewood, New Democratic, Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville could garner some leadership experience.

V. The MLAs that add the word "Member" in front of their title for gender neutrality don't have any idea whether they are voting as men or women or were voting for gender reassignment surgery. That's okay, their motions were tabled & their amendments were defeated.

VI. Sandra Jansen, MLA, M. Comm., Progressive Conservative, Calgary-Northwest doesn't have a big enough purse. She needs one at least twice the size so she can put more outfits in it for her Summer Legislature Fashion Show on the south lawn.

VII. The Hon. Stephanie McLean, B. A., LL. B., MLA, Minister of Service Alberta & The Status of Women, New Democratic, Calgary-Varsity was ruled "out of order" by the Hon. Bobby Wanner, B. A., M. A., M. B. A., MLA, Speaker, New Democratic, Medicine Hat for not bring her baby Master Patrick McLean into the Chamber for amendment votes. As Speaker Wanner pointed out in the "Alberta Hansard", the baby squawks less than most of the MLAs & is certainly filled with less crap.

VIII. The Edmonton Journal Alberta Legislature Bureau Columnist Graham Thomson never actually sits in the Legislature Press Gallery box. Like many MLAs, he's just "phoning" it in. thanks for telling me Paula Simons his Journal compatriot & Don Braid of The Calgary Herald.

IX. "Retro" Laurie Callsen (ex girlfriend of Captain America) brings her feline son Archie into planning session for the Premier's Communications Office daily. This is why the nasty turn lately in the New Democratic Government's attitude to the Opposition. Archie (in between malts's with Jughead & Reggie at Pop's Malt Shop) has singlehandedly turned this attitude into a gender neutered "Catitude."

IX. No Ukranian restaurant would deliver a bulk order of perogies for the Assembly supper hour. They were scared the Wildrose wouldn't pay for the perogies & then throw them in the "lake of fire."

The 850 Thousand Dollar Wonder Child!

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

June Ist, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed, MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

What can be said about the 850 Thousand Dollar Wonder Child the Hon. Amarjeet Sohi, PC, MP, Minister Of Infrastucture & Communities , Liberal, Edmonton-Millwoods? Not much really. He was a terrible City Councillor & has turned out to be an even worse MP & member of Her Majesty's Government in Ottawa. A billion plus wasted on an LRT that doesn't work worth a damn & probably 400-600 million more to fix the Northern Alberta Institute Of Technology (NAIT) LRT extension line. Plus, Amarjeet clearly stole the election from former Conservative MP Tim Uppal who was much more effective. Amarjeet being a bus driver by vocation knew that the LRT in Edmonton that no one rides but the corporate elitists & City officials who fraudulently inflate the ridership numbers to squeeze more tax dollars out of a citizenry that is broke should have been built underground in a city that is covered in snow & ice 6-8 months a year, yet still went ahead & helped the councils of Mayors Mandel & Iveson build it all above ground. Why? Because then Edmonton City Council could have an excuse to raise taxes even more just so he could rip it up again so it would be built above or below ground by Kingsway Garden Mall & NAIT & come in years behind schedule. Plus charge NAIT students for the use of it for three years before it was finished and it hasn't even worked at full capacity for a single day. Some infrastructure genius! And we are still paying for it with the incompetent dolts & Edmonton Planning & the overpaid & inept new City Manager Linda Cochrane who has a team of 12 yegified yeg staffers just to help show her the way to the nearest Tim Hortons.

As I have stated here at Executive Dissertations before & in copious letters & emails to the Prime Minister, it was Randy Boissonnault, MP, Liberal, Edmonton-Centre who should have been put in cabinet & not Amarjeet. Randy is a Rhodes Scholar, got proven innocent of all charges in the Michael Ritter scandal involving finances. He has been straight with the public & voters & has turned into a remarkable MP & a great role model as a gay MP for the LGBTQ community. I am frankly proud to have him as my MP & believe Randy should be put into the cabinet to replace Amarjeet immediately who clearly needs a timeout with his extreme lack of ethics over "furnituregate." People should read the unbelievably excellent article in "Avenue Edmonton Magazine" on Randy about his personal & political journey to get where he's at, its a remarkable life story & was suggested to me by Rev. William Wade Izzard of the Universal Life Church Canada, Aboriginal Youth Outreach Program his good friend! Plus it is a magazine owned & published by Mr. Orville Chubb, a rather remarkable publishing talent in his own right who makes forthright decisions for children currently on the Edmonton Public School Board as a Trustee!

I ran to replace Amarjeet as one of the 32 candidates in the Ward XII (12) Byelection that Amarjeet stuck taxpayers with a $500,000.00 bill for. Plus he got $350,000.00 for his very poor years of service as a rather poor Council member who many constituents at the doors told me he was very bad at getting back to them, most of the time not at all. This is why I cannot figure out why his council colleagues & City Of Edmonton officials like him as he's a terrible MP & person who does nothing to contribute to the betterment of government at any level. I don't know why he didn't spend those funds instead if he really believed in transparency!

In a gesture of goodwill, I offered up Amarjeet through his Campaign staff free use of surplus office furniture from our family's furniture store that we used to own for his Ottawa office. All he would have to do is pay to ship it to Ottawa & he turned me down flat. Man this guy has no respect for the public purse!

Disgraceful,

Rory
