"Will The Senator Yield The Floor?"-Shelley Capito

R. J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Ward G YEG Public School Board Trustee Byelection Candidate, Edmonton, Alberta

August XXXIst, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Senator Shelley Capito of The Panhandle State of West Virginia completes our "trifecta" West Virginian weekend with a focus in her thinking on how sickening human trafficking & slavery of people of all ages including kids is. At a symposium she starts off well by thanking her hosts at a panel discussion on the matter to get everyone in the conference room settled. A practice I thought ended during the watch of XVIth President Abraham Lincoln, Republican-Illinois & The Civil War.

"Thank you West Liberty University for hosting us today. We are here to discuss the very serious crime of human trafficking."

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin of West Virginia has set his mind on getting West Virginian students while on a trade mission to Japan. This lets the students network with the Governor & learn what educational opportunities might be afforded to them in the Orient & how they can use those skills to make West Virginia a better place for all of its citizenry. The Governor shows class & appreciation in thanking them for a great discussion where much was learned by all sides.

"I'd like to give thanks to all those who submitted questions & shared an interest in West Virginia's growing relationship with Japan."

Rory

"Will The Senator Yield The Floor?"-Joe Manchin

August XXIXth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

As we invoke the spirit of the late & great singer John Denver and his West Virginia country roads, we at Executive Dissertations are showing Senator Joe Manchin of The Mountain State of West Virginia in a photograph sitting on the floor of the United States House of Representatives which is acceptable as it is still a House of Congress. Plus, during State of the Union Addresses by President's & other occasions, joint sessions are held in the House Chamber of all of the congressional members, some CCCCXXXV (435) for the House & C (100) for the Senate. Ol' Joe was wondering why during a U.S. government shutdown due to a lack of money that elected representatives get paid while students & their families have to suffer as wages & pensions are cut off. A reasonable question.

"While millions of American families will be impacted by a government shutdown-whether they are serving our country's military, whether someone in their family is furloughed-or whether they are unable to use critical government services-elected officials are the one group who will not be impacted. Just the opposite, in fact: we still get paid. How does that make any sense?"

Almost Heaven,

Rory

Dear Dave:

We move out west to the State of Washington & have Governor Jay Inslee explain to us what he plans to do about advocating for children. What he's doing about it is appointing a new Family & Children's Ombudsman named Patrick Dowd who it looks like is immensely qualified & Jay is giving Pat the power to actually make a difference for children of a lesser means. The topic area is appropriate considering all the abhorrent thousand + of poor dead children under the previous Progressive Conservative administrations.

"Patrick's knowledge & experience will fit well with the unique role of this office & our continuous improvement efforts to protect children & from maltreatment."

Dear Dave:

Sitting in the great Former Senator Bob Dole's old Senate seat ("war here Dole") still alive thankfully in his XC's (90's)) is Senator Jerry Moran of The Wheat State of Kansas. Jerry shows his respect for Bob & his efforts as a Kansas Senator, Vice-Presidential & Presidential ticket man & WWII hero. Wishing the retired Senator a Happy Birthday last month on the Social Media engine of Facebook shows Jerry is teaching Kansan students they can learn a lot from their former Senators, especially those with such a distinguished military & public service career.

"Happy Birthday, Senator Dole. You have been a tremendous mentor & inspiration to me & selfless leader to the great people of Kansas. We are forever indebted to you for your service."

Dear Dave:

Having a bite to eat on the way home I noticed just how great an online newspaper The Hinton Voice is! I enjoy looking through local periodicals online &/or in paper format when in another jurisdiction & I must say this little newspaper has a great staff. In addition its still locally owned & so is free to provide independent thought in its writings, real old school! Cynthia Bigrigg & Tyler Waugh do journalism students proud by holding this weekly paper together & making sure that Hinton residents get the absolute best in local & regional coverage. The two of them are certainly a credit to their profession! Sarah Burns, Robin Garreck, & Angie Still do excellent work in the background in marketing, accounting, & production.

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

The Sunset State of Oregon asks Senator Jeff Merkley to explain his thought process on urban decay & rotting water infrastructure. Without properly clean water, the citizenry can face things such as diseases. An issue The Dominion Of Canada faces as well. Look at Edmonton city streets for example, we face endless tax increases & yet nothing is really getting fixed properly, not just in water table issues but on land as well. I know what the Senator is saying is quite true as there were sections of CVIth (107th) Avenue by my apartment voted on to be repaired XXX (30) years ago which still haven't been touched. I am sure that there are millions of examples of decay in both urban & rural settings!

Dear Dave:

We have Governor Terry McAuliffe of Virginia delving into the matter of the Virginia Index of Performance Awards & handing them out, while also being encouraging & giving a confidence boost publicly to the winners so they continue their efforts. An Editor's Note: This is sort of like the Governor General's Awards (such as the Governor General's Academic Medal For Scholastic Excellence) & The Order Of Canada Medals given out here in The Dominion Of Canada at the residence of The Governor General, which is Rideau Hall. These medals have always been handed out by Canada's Governor General of the day, who is our constitutional "representative of Crown matters" (acting on behalf Her Majesty The Queen who is "head of state") & not the Prime Minister. Whereas Virginian students & other Americans/Canadians who read this post must be reminded that their President is both "head of state & government." Rideau Hall is also where the cabinet of whomever forms the next Her Majesty's Government after our current Federal Election is sworn in.

"These schools & divisions are laboratories for innovation that are preparing young Virginians to compete & succeed in a new Virginia economy. I congratulate the students, teachers, principals, & communities whose efforts have turned their schools into leaders in training the workforce of the future."

Dear Dave:

Senator Ron Wyden of The Webfoot State of Oregon asks students to embrace the concept of clean energy so as to improve the state's & the nation's environmental circumstances. The concept is an interesting one when you consider in this Federal Election here in The Dominion Of Canada, depending on who gets in & what President Barack Obama, Democratic-Illinois (Kenya) does we may or not get pipelines for transporting oil &/or gas built (ie.: Keystone/Energy East) so may be forced to look at renewable energy options for future generations of working families.

"Geysers, volcanoes, & hot springs-like Oregon's own Neal Hot Springs- are reservoirs of the Earth's enormous clean energy potential."

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA

Dear Dave:

The great political operative & young lady Miss Amanda Nielsen suggested this topic of kale & wanted to know where she could get quality kale (as I used to work in a produce department) to feed her friend's chinchillas. Amanda ran for the Progressive Conservative nod in Edmonton-McClung provincially & lost, but I feel that she is a lady on the move & will one day serve Albertans well in some political office. As it happens, Governor Peter Shumlin of Vermont is showing that he stands up for farmers, working families & students who want to eat more fruits & vegetables rather than say fried chicken. An independent folk artist named Bo Muller-Moore wanted the right to use the phrase "eat more kale" to be able to suggest to the citizens of Vermont & America that eating kale is great in terms of nutrition & keeping a person(s) healthy. Better nutrition can only lead to better cognitive function in the brains of the students of Vermont. Bo won his court fight & the Governor proudly stood with him.

An Editor's Note: Whomever forms the next Her Majesty's Government will have to have its Minister Of Health promote the Canada Food Guide & healthy living, such as the eating of kale & other vegetables in classrooms & other settings. Thus this becomes an immediate issue in the Federal Election on now here in The Dominion Of Canada.

"It's a victory for grow local. It's a victory for Vermont's small food & farm agricultural renaissance, & it's a victory for Vermont."

Dear Dave:

I bring you Senator Al Franken of The Gopher State of Minnesota remarking on his sadness in that Minnesota school kids aren't receiving as good an education as he received, an education that allowed him to excel to the very top in comedy on the National Broadcasting Company's (NBC's) "Saturday Night Live", in radio with a great liberal-focused talk show & in the "Upper House" of the U.S. Congress. An Editor's Note: Sen. August XVIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA
Minister of Education,
New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

We once again have the Edmonton Public Library (EPL) & its new Chief Executive Officer Pilar Martinez innovating for the better. Pilar & her gang at EPL administration are making local Edmonton & surrounding artists music heard for free at the Www.Epl.Ca website, something that I & many other lovers of quality music I am sure will endorse. Once again EPL has made a quality decision because the more recognition these artisans have the better exposure they will garner towards furthering their careers. This is something I would strongly consider all libraries worldwide to do.

In terms of the Federal Election here in The Dominion Of Canada now, the next Minister Of Heritage might want to encourage this continued sharing of musical tastes & styles between Canadian artisans across the nation. In this way, they can collaborate with one another & learn from each other so that interprovincial pieces of music can be made. This would go a going way towards improving International & Intergovernmental Relations, a department run by your colleague the Hon. Rachel Notley, B.A., LL.B., New Democratic, Edmonton-Strathcona.

Dear Dave:

In The North Star State we have Senator Amy Klobuchar working on the educational front. Amy shows pride in the fact that her mother (like my late mother June) was an educator by trade. This is great as it gets kids excited about being teachers. Which is why a Federal Minister Of Education would be great in the next Canadian Parliament to ensure quality national oversight standards for the educators of the future across The Dominion Of Canada from sea to sea to sea!

Governor Gary Herbert of Utah looks at preventing religious discrimination & that includes those citizens of Utah who are not of the Mormon faith (the religion of the majority of the citizenry in Utah.) He also is striking a balance by getting increased rights for LGBTQ students & their families who live in the state. A truly remarkable bit of legislative crafting by a conservative Republican. Something we need to discuss in The Dominion Of Canada's election too, religious & minority rights tolerance.

"I do believe what we have done here will become a model for the rest of the country of how they, too, can resolve issues in their own respective states, as we find the right balance necessary to discourage discrimination while protecting religious liberty."

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Not wanting to get into a boxing match is Senator Barbara Boxer of The California Republic. Instead, the Senator gets down to work with sparring partners in the U.S. Senate on getting students of California to assist her with young & fresh ideas on how to protect the environment with a visually appealing poster contest. Something politicians don't do enough of while in office. We need in this Federal Election season to promote more awareness of the arts & the many talented artisans & friends of the environment we have here across The Dominion Of Canada.

"As Ranking Member of the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee, I am working to make our world a cleaner & healthier place. My "Help Save The Earth Contest" is aimed to get young people to think about & share their ideas on how we can protect the environment."

Democracy Is Important!

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Lois Hole Public Library Terminal #XI, Edmonton, Alberta

August XIIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Exactly VI (6) days go today, I became the Ist (1st) voter to cast a ballot in the riding of Edmonton-Centre where I reside & this is the IInd (2nd) straight Federal Election writ where I have had that distinct privilege. I hand printed my chosen candidate's name on what is termed a "Special Ballot." Besides the novelty of never before having had a chance to cast a ballot in the month of August, it was convenient as I will be out of town on Election Day, Monday, October XIXth and so this option was better for me.

So whether people are first time student voters or a hundred years old or more, I strongly encourage them to vote. Whether that be by Special Ballot like me, or at Advance, Mobile, or Mail-In Ballots. Democracy & the process of choosing who you feel will make the best MP in one of these CCCXXXVIII (338) separate contests can make a real difference as to what leader or leaders constitute the next Her Majesty's Government here in The Dominion Of Canada!

August XIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA

Dear Dave:

Texas Governor Greg Abbott isn't letting being wheelchair bound slow him down. Just like current Liberal Candidate in Calgary-Centre Kent Hehr, current Conservative Candidate the Hon. Steve Fletcher, PC, Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia-Headingly, & the late Former President Franklin Roosevelt, Democratic-New York, Greg is showing he has the stamina & the ability to fight for the rights of disabled students & all Texans. A young lady named Kari Hunt has gotten the Texas government & its Chief Executive to sign into law making it mandatory that 9-1-1 or emergency lines be in place for anyone in trouble after the murder of her mom Kari Dunn. This is not really surprising as 9-1-1 wait times for police here in Alberta & other jurisdictions are getting worse in many places so this legislative action makes sense. Having health oversights in place, especially when II (2) cops have died in Alberta alone is wise strategy & I applaud this Great Texan for "rolling along" with this idea.

"There's a lesson virtually every parent teaches their child-if you face an emergency-call 9-1-1. I am signing Kari's Law to ensure that whenever there is an emergency, any child & any adult who dials 9-1-1 is going to be able to connect with emergency personnel to ensure they come to the rescue of those who need help the most. Today cements in history the important role that Kari Hunt has played & I'm thankful for her & her family in changing the course of the future in the State of Texas."

August Xth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Onto The Golden State of California & Senator Dianne Feinstein. Dianne looks at keeping kids safe in child care settings where in parents are working & must leave their children with alternate adult providers. It looks like Alberta isn't the only North American jurisdiction with many child care deaths. Again with the M (1,000) plus deaths under the previous provincial administrations led by the Progressive Conservative cabinets & what with the Rt. Hon. Steve Harper, PC, Conservative Candidate, Calgary-Heritage getting the Hon. Joe Oliver, PC, Conservative Candidate, Eglinton-Lawrence to start handing out reconfigured Federal Child Tax Credit Benefit cheques, it definitely becomes a Federal Election issue here in The Dominion Of Canada!

Dear Dave:

You might think the citizens of the great province of Saskatchewan have hit the "wall" on ridiculous emergency wait times for they & their families (a very bad problem across The Dominion Of Canada), Premier Brad Wall is there to buck then up with confidence in making changes to the system. He is working on the file due to the fact that the Saskatchewan Election has been delayed to April MMXVI b/c of the early Federal Election writ drop by The Rt. Hon. Students of Saskatchewan health schools & folks in the health industry take note of Bradley's strong attitude here to work at the problem hard!

August XIIIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

We head back to The Badger State of Wisconsin & discover Senator Tammy Baldwin thinking about the fact her state & her nation deserve a quality railroad system. In this way, Wisconsin made & other consumer goods can get to market faster & families on a budget can get them at a more reasonable financial value. Thus leaving more cash for things such as educational expenses for their children. As we have rotting railroad infrastructure here in The Dominion Of Canada & railroads are federal jurisdiction it becomes an election issue (just as it was during the start of this country with our Ist & IInd Prime Ministers Sir John A. Macdonald & Alexander Mackenzie.) Then of course once oil & energy come back, we need to know that rail routes will be safe for the shipping of energy projects if things such as The Keystone Energy Pipeline don't get built due to President Barack Obama, Democratic-Illinois (Kenya) killing it.

"Our Wisconsin businesses need a quality & responsive railroad system to effectively get their goods to market."

August VIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Senator Ron Johnson of The Cheese State of Wisconsin discusses red tape like other Senators & getting proper educational materials to teachers & students in a more timely fashion so they are properly set out on the start of their career path. This relates to the Federal Election here in The Dominion Of Canada b/c students face many barriers in getting grants, housing allowances & supports for their families if they choose to go back to school. Also, federal transfer payments don't always arrive on time thus forcing teachers to use their own wages to buy school supplies for students & since there is no Canadian Federal Minister Of Education, there is no real proper oversight that would allow for the cutting of that red tape!

"We should be moving towards more local control & an educational system that concentrates on matching educational results with employer needs."

Dear Dave:

Freshman Senator Joni Ernst of The Tall Corn State of Iowa speaks on the U.S. Senate Floor to security students & law enforcement officials about the need to have the best security possible for her state & the nation. This is one of the many important issues brought up with Presidential candidates in The Iowa Caucuses every IVth year & should be listened to very carefully. Especially with the security failures with II dead cops in Alberta this year alone & the attack on Parliament Hill, it has become an issue in the current Federal Election here in The Dominion Of Canada as well!

"As the budget process moves forward, we must insure that our national security needs our met."

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA

New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Giving folks in politics a lesson in "civics" this Civic Holiday is Governor Dennis Daugaard of South Dakota. Dennis is the first Governor of a state to have been born to two fully deaf parents. I myself have a deaf aunt & uncle so maybe I should take some sign language courses. Dennis talks about his love & respect & admiration for his dad, even though he was hearing disabled. The Governor showcases that folks with disabilities can be great parents too. The comments also stress the importance of learning sign language if you are a hearing child to deaf parents so that the household functions normally for all. It also stresses the continued need for proper sign language translation on Parliament Hill in The House Of Commons, Senate & in Committee Hearings so that hearing impaired parliamentarians & Canadians can still in the next parliament have full access to to the parliamentary process of dealing with Her Majesty's Government, Her Majesty's Loyal Official Opposition, & other opposition groups!

"He loved my mother & was attentive to her needs. He gave me & my sisters love, & taught us that all work has dignity. He never used his disability & as an excuse & he did not let it define him. He was the best father one could ever want. On this Father's Day, I remember my father, & thank God for the generous gift of his life. He may not have been able to hear or speak, but the way he lived his life spoke volumes to me."

Pierre,

Rory

"Will The Senator Yield The Floor?"-Chuck Grassley

Dear Dave:

With a Federal Election writ dropped by the His Excellency The Right Honourable The Governor General David Johnston, LL.B., LL.B., AB., C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D. on behalf of Her Majesty's Government, we now are in an election that is XI (11) weeks in length rather than IV (4) or V (5.) In other words a real dogfight in which political opponents in this new CCCXXXVIII (338) seat parliament will try to "mow eachother down politically." So speaking of mowing, who better than Senator Chuck Grassley of The Hawkeye State of Iowa to review the matter of military service by students. As The Governor General Of/De The Dominion Of Canada is after all the Military Commander-In Chief of Canada's Armed Forces. Three Iowans have done their state proud as they have been accepted into the U.S. Air Force Academy, a very prestigious honor indeed & the Senator is showing how pleased he is about that, as I am sure many citizens of Iowa are.

"Admission to the service academies is a highly competitive & a great honor. Students work very hard to earn this kind of opportunity. I wish Mark, Jean, & Yair well & thank them for their commitment to serve our nation."

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA., Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

We have Premier Darrell Paloski of the Yukon Territory chatting about his interest in boosting economic activity up in northern Canada & working in tandem with federal & provincial/territorial counterparts on these matters. A pharmacist by trade & education, Darrell is looking at ways to reduce costs of drugs & other consumer goods to his territory, in particular remote areas.

"Two particular projects that are crucial to a strong North are a new large-scale hydro facility to meet long term energy needs, & expanding telecommunications infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted connectivity."

Whitehorse,

Rory
