February XXVIIIth, MMXV

Hon. Gordon Dirks, B. Ed., M. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Calgary-Elbow

Dear Gordon:

An Editor's Note: President Dwight Eisenhower ran from New York for his MCMLII (1952) election bid & proceeded to change his personal residency to Kansas in MCMLV (1955) & so ran from that completely different State for his MCMLVI (1956) reelection bid. So Pres. Eisenhower is technically the only II (2) term or greater "sitting" President to have run as a candidate for the Presidency from II (2) States instead of one. His birth State was actually Texas but as an Army man he moved around a lot.

Looking at common themes here for the Office of the Presidency at Executive Dissertations we see the terrible price war takes on lives & how much the Generals & Admirals hate to fight it, even though that's their job, they wanted peace just as much as the average citizen. Just as XVIIIth President U.S. Grant, Republican-Illnois hated war & bloodshed in The Civil War, we have another V (5) Star General-Of-The Army & Allied Supreme Commander who later went onto become Military Commamder-In-Chief express these same concerns what XC (90) years later. "Ike" expressed these views in a professorial & business like tone to students at The White House since he had been President of Columbia University, he had the technical skill to orate these matters properly. Pres. Eisenhower is considered one of America's finest Generals, but he that war was idiotic & that up & coming generations should strive for peace.

"I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity."

January XXth, MCMLIII (1953)-January XXth, MCMLXI (1961),

Rory
