Hon. Jeff Johnson, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

President John Tyler had a tough go of things as he set the template for Presidential succession. As President William Harrison was the Ist President to die in office, President Tyler moved into the White House quickly & took the Oath of Office in order to keep the United States government moving. As a Chief Executive had never died before, many citizens saw him as illegitimate as he had been elected Vice-President & not President.

An Editor's Note: President Tyler was elected as a Whig Vice-President, but became a Democratic President shortly after taking over the top job. This was due to infighting with the Whig Party apparatus, unprecendented IV a sitting President. The President's lesson to students is about decent relationships among peoples & countries for peace as much as possible due to the futility of war.

"So far as it depends on the course of this government, our relations of good will and friendship will be sedulously cultivated with all nations."

April IVth, MDCCCXLI (1841)-March IVth, MDCCCXLV (1845),

Rory
