The "Art" Of Archery

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin.
#6, 14504-108 Avenue
Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

August XXXIst, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA
Minister of Education,
Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Archery & the "art" of shooting at either an affixed target, or a moving one like an animal in the woods for responsible "food use" hunting is truly poetic. It seems more respectful to animals than firing guns & makes the archer truly work to either accomplish their kill target or just shoot at a paper target. Students of all ages should get involved in archery shooting. I enjoyed doing it at the Northern Alberta Institute Of Technology (NAIT) Archery compound. Both students & their family's can go. Classes conducted by a professional teach students both hunting/target skills, as well as wilderness survival skills.

Arrowhead,

Rory

Dear Jeff:

Thats really rather accomodating of the Edmonton Public Schools Administration through its board to cancel drastic rent rate increases. August XXVIIIth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

I must confess that its nice to be living next to the West Edmonton Christian School & Edmonton Christian High School where I attended from Grades I-XII. Its nice to have the routine back in place of the students playing outside & enjoying themselves. Plus, the added bonus of knowing that they are being well educated inside by the fine teachers & adult role models in administration & on the support staffs! I like hearing the buzzers signifying the changes in periods. It gives a sense of normalcy to the students, a sense of educational belonging!

Lack Of Debate And Decorum

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

August XXVIth, MMXI

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Students & their family's might want to take note. There seemed to be sort of a lack of debate on the proposed homeless shelter for the Terwillegar area the other night. It seemed that Human Services Minister Dave Hancock, QC, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Whitemud were just saying the plan was to be put through & thats that.

Dear Jeff:

While the World Book Encyclopedia is outstanding online, its just as great IV students to have a copy at their fingertips. In this way, they can actually see how valuable have encyclopedic knowledge is on paper. Especially if they are studying at home and their computer/tablet/Iphone breaks down, or their family just cannot afford to purchase a computer or other such technological device. The pictures & graphs are fantastic. The text commentaries & factoids about people, places, & all manner of things/subjects are beyond amazing!

While I most certainly agree with Thomas's decision II have some oversight on the University Of Alberta cuts, isn't it kind of like beating a dead horse? Raising Autism Awareness

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

August XXth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

As a person afflicted with high functioning autism or aspergers syndrome, I was horrified to hear of the letter written to the family of the boy with low functioning autism. In this letter, the boy was called retarded & made fun of IV his squeals & sounds, of which he has no control over, but show his happiness & that he has some cognitive function. Many low functioning autistic kids like Jaden Lake, son of MP Mike Lake are very intelligent & just communicate differently. Being that I am also on the autism spectrum, I am beyond horrified that the writer would tell the family to have their kid euthanized, especially when he has so much to share. Mike Lake was on 630 Ched's new 9am-12pm show, "Tencer & Grose" & the "630 Ched Morning News" chatting about his boy & this terrible situation in Ontario.

Good Job Mike,

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Dear Jeff:

While I agree its a shame that we lose arts program & art in general. I can certainly see your point & that of the Hon. Thomas Lukaszuk, MLA, Deputy Premier & Minister of Advanced Enterprise & Education, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Castledowns that it makes sense IV the University Of Alberta II shut down these programs. Especially when some have low student enrolment or none at all. Better to stick with profitable arts degree programs & to cut deficits faster so that more cash can go to the students in programs that make money directly.

Dear Jeff:

An older gentleman was just offloading concrete sidewalk blocks at the west end Lowe's store just now. He wasn't wearing gloves when an employee noticed this & came over & brought the customer gloves. My dad Johannes (Joe) & I were quite pleased II see this employee give the customer an education & a general prodding in safety. He then helped the customer (with a pair of work gloves on himself) finish loading the concrete blocks on his truck. Dear Jeff:

Sergeant Joe Friday of the Los Angeles Police Department seems to be running into inappropriate literature for high school students. I wonder what he has to say on the matter.

"We were working the day watch out of Juvenile Division. My partner is Frank Smith; my name's Friday. A steady stream of obscene literature had been making its way into a half-dozen high schools in the city. We'd gotten a lead on one of the sources of supply-we had to check it out."

Dr. Rajnish (Raj) Sherman, MD, MLA, Liberal, Edmonton-Meadowlark is right on the money when he says there needs to be more accountability in daycares/dayhomes/home daycares to ensure they are safe for children. Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Dear Jeff:

This year, Edmonton Public Library (EPL) cards are free, but in MMXIV they will once again not be. I am accepting the free fees this year, but I like many other EPL patrons always donate double my fees back in paying years so that someone who is less fortunate can have a free card. August IXth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Its time to get Sergeant Joe Friday of the Los Angeles Police Department to give us a student/troubled young person commentary.:

"When he was at school, Johnny was kept supplied with narcotics by a man named Jocko Harris. He's what we call a pusher, a kind of in-between supply man in the narcotics trade. He was lying face up in the water near a clump of trees. He was a good-looking boy-dark hair, good build, handsome. Took only one look and you knew he was too young to be dead. You could argue for a week but you couldn't change it. He was dead. His mother said that he was such a good boy and wondered how could he have ever have gotten started in such a thing? How could he make such a big mistake? I told her that he had the best excuse in the world, he was seventeen!"

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

As sad as it is that two fine looking school aged New Brunswick boys are dead, we must remember that this is not the python's fault. Its in its nature to kill & manoeuvre around. A hunter instinct, & yes its awful the python killed the boys, but it only did so b/c it was under duress in the exotic animals shop & obviously not secured away properly. I do believe that this particular snake should be killed once the investigation is over now that its been recaptured. But the pet shop owner should be forced to pay a huge fine & be forced to serve some serious jail time.

Civic Acts Of Kindness By Students On This Civic Holiday

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin.

Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

August Vth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA
Minister of Education,
Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Here is a list of kind civic-minded things IV students to do with their family's on this Civic Holiday Monday, or any day IV that matter.

I. Visit senior citizens in lodges/extended care facility's. Seniors, especially those whose spouse has died are quite lonely due to their lack of mobility. Having people visit them will cheer them up so they can chat & also make the visitor happy with their fascinating senior insights.

II. Serve as a candy striper or volunteer in say a hospital emergency ward. Hospital volunteer experience is good not just IV students & sick patients, its good IV a resume as a volunteer experience reference IV those students who take part.

III. Volunteer to serve a meal at a homeless shelter/soup kitchen.

IV. Clean up garbage & other refuse in say a park area or around your neighborhood to make it feel & look better. Great exercise plus you can bring along any family pets for a healthy & fun time of running around with the family.

V. Help a neighbor with a small household duty such as painting their garage door. Students gain valuable painting/construction experience time here & a healthy bonding period with their neighbors.

VI. Have a neighborhood potluck so that you & your neighbors really get to know one another./

Civic Sensibility,

Not Green With Envy

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin.

Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

August IVth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA
Minister of Education,
Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Radio talk show host Roy Green is right on once again. He discovered through one of his former producers who had difficulty writing that cursive handwriting, such as the ability to print your name is not taught in some schools anymore. You cannot function in society with any cognition if you do not have the ability to handwrite & handprint. Things like legal documents would be hard for you II read & sign. Many students haven't even got the ability to hold pens/pencils/other writing instruments anymore & thats truly frightening. Roy's producer couldn't write very well & Roy noticed mistakes in his syntax/grammar. It took until Grade 12 english & post-secondary endeavours IV this producer II learn to write. I IV one don't understand why schools juist dumb down results IV students in order to just move them on when they should be either held back &/or given some tutoring by teachers/linguistic experts so that they can keep bon pace & not graduate high school as a functional illiterate.

Grotesque,

Rory

Dear Jeff:

More smart student commentary from Sergeant Joe Friday of the Los Angeles Police Department:

"The pattern was familiar enough for us to know they were telling the truth. Almost two months ago, the word had gone around among the teenagers in the neighborhood that marijuana, along with other stimulating drugs, was to be had easily and in quantity enough for anybody who wanted them. Word was passed around that it the new thing to do, the smart thing to do if you wanted to keep up with the crowd."

What a shame about Fox dramedy "Glee" losing Canadian actor Cory Monteith of a drug overdose of booze & heroine. Only XXXI, so sad for his girlfriend (& co-star) Lea Michele, his family, friends, & "Glee" castmates.
