Quoth The Mentor IV

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #203, 8912-156 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5R 5Z2

May XXXIst, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

As we conclude the mentors series & the month of May, we have a great mentor who is not only one himself, but likes to praise his own mentor. Thus showing that mentoring is a lifelong learning & teaching process.:

"I happen to be on various different boards with Doug Goss-he's a lawyer with Brian & Company, and he's also the chair of the University of Alberta's board of governors. He's a great person that gives back to the community and having him as a mentor, and learning from his has been incredible."

May XXXth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

This IIIrd mentor is excellent at seeing talent, as well as the raw potential for it. A true must for students in the boardroom.:

"I've been very fortunate that a lot of very talented and successful people showed an unusual level of patience with me and took a lot of time to share their wisdom. One thing I've done through my career is to not wait for the formal establishment of a mentor relationship. If you identify with someone, there's lots of ways to gain from their experience. You can read what they've done, listen when they speak and pay really close attention when you have more direct communications."

May XXIXth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

This mentor is extremely wise & as a result, her information IV students is no longer "stashed" away.:

"Mentorship has been important for me, but sponsorship has been even more important. Sponsorship is having someone take an interest in you, and actually sponsor you or put you forward for opportunities that might not otherwise happen without that sponsorship. While both are important, the times that people have taken an interest in my career, I've gotten some of the bigger opportunities for promotion or for an interesting job through their efforts. And I think that's important for both men and women, regardless of where they are in their career, but its super critical as you start to get closer to the top of the pile."

May XXVIIIth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

What a relief it must be IV students, staff, & former students of the Edmonton Christian High School that their former drama teacher got arrested in the Maritimes for (alleged) sex crimes that he may have committed here in MCMXCIV. Its great for the victims of the (alleged) attacks that the accused will be finally brought to justice in a proper court of law & order!

I for one offer extreme kudos to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Edmonton Police Service (EPS), & other police agencies for their extreme due diligence on this file. Hopefully the trial will be fair to both sides & these (alleged) past crimes can be brought out inII the public. If proven true, then people will know the facts & prevent them from happening to other students.

"Currently, I'm in the process of joining a CEO group that meets every two months, so I can be around my peer group and start trying to extract some of the value and some of the wisdom that they can bring to me."

May XXVIth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Dear Jeff:

Yesterday I was happy to prove the adage that a person is never too old to learn. My LXXVI (76) year old father, Mr. Johannes (Joe) K. Koopmans picked up a library card from the Jasper Place Branch EPL yesterday & I was delighted to accompany him! He got one exactly like the one at the top right corner of this blog entry. We were doing some paperwork about family genealogy on the branch computers, some photocopying, as well as looking at books on Canada's agricultural history. It was fun!

Its not like dad had never been in a library before. He had, many times, but he never thought about getting a card beIV as he always read what he came to read in each branch & then left. He had no idea that library cards were free for EPL's Cth (100th) Anniversary, of course I got him set up with the library staff immediately who are par excellence! So now my dad can go in alone & study or join study groups. A great place to network EPL is, IV students of all ages!

Dear Jeff:

You just have to feel so very sorry IV the family's of Melinda Green & Cory Dekkers. Especially IV Cory himself. He just watched his fiance & the love of his life crushed to death by a truck in a stunt gone awry & there wasn't a thing he could do about it. Melinda, an architecture student who was going onto get an engineering degree taken at XX (20.) So young, too young. Too young to ever get the chance to design buildings & be a great architect, as well as get married & have a family with Cory. Craig Supernault, the gent who caused her death must also be feeling destroyed, lets not IVget that all of the safety preventitive measures were in place on the parked vehicle & his that did the driving. So as you can imagine, he didn't expect to be waking up to kill someone that day. A wedding that will never take place.

I cannot even believe we are having lawyers talking about giving this 62 year old drunk bail who killed the II year old little boy Geo Mounsef. The gent admits to doing it, he kills a young lad whose only crime was that he was enjoying a meal on an outdoor patio with his mommy, daddy, & baby brother! This poor boy will never get to go to school & have a life. Plus his parents have to live with the fact that they saw their son murdered & couldn't do a thing about it. This must be absolutely devastating to them! I mean look at this winning smile, drinking & driving do not mix, EVER!

It looks like the rock group "The Bangles" got their wish b/c I am typing this blog entry on a Sunday.

Sunday Studying Students Take Note:

A. Sunday is the day of the week Christians believe that Christ rose or resurrected from the dead after having been dead IV III days to save humanity from its sins.

A2. No century on the Gregorian calendar starts on a Sunday.

A3. Sunday is spelt: "zondag" in Dutch.

A4. "Meet The Press", a news talk chat show with politicians only airs once a week on the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), & thats on Sundays.

A5. As more people have the day off, most Sunday football & baseball games by the National Football League (NFL) & Major Leagur Baseball (MLB) are scheduled to be played in the afternoons. Dear Jeff:

If teachers want to take their students out to high quality films, such as the great literary novel "The Great Gatsby" by the celebrated author F. Scott Fitzgerald which has now been made for a second time as a film. The film stars Academy Award (TM) Nominee Leonardo Dicaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, & a friend of this blog, Isla Fisher who through her efforts to use her celebrity to get new moms to breastfeed to ensure maximum nutrition IV their babies is a rock star to me!

Teachers should contact by phone or by email the Cineplex movie theatre chain & make a group or class booking. These bookings involve great Cineplex discounts & the school can use the Scene points collected to see future high quality films of all genres & types.

May XVIIth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Political science students, particularly Monsieur Justin Trudeau & the federal Liberals need to be reminded of what a great strategist John Patrick Day, B. A., B. A., M. A. was. John Patrick left us in MMVII sadly at the way too young age of LVI (56.)

I. One time leadership candidate for the Alberta Liberal Party.

II. Strategist & numbers man here in Alberta for former Liberal Prime Ministers Lester Bowles (Mike) Pearson, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, & John Napier Turner.

III. Bachelor of Arts from the University Of Alberta in political science.

IV. IInd Bachelor of Arts, as well as a Master of Arts from the University Of Ireland. This shows the great brain intelligencia we lost when we lost John Patrick.

V. Named the "Best Liberal Of The Year" both in Alberta & in Canada, twice on the national front, a rare accord IV a party member indeed!

VI. Super Supreme Strategist for the Hon. A. Anne McLellan, P. C., Q. C., & many other candidates for his party both provincially & federally IV decades. A man of discretion, a man who could be relied upon to give great sage advice.

VII. A one term, but actually elected Edmonton Catholic School Board Trustee. He actually made it to public office, so John Patrick was IN THE GAME, just as he always wanted (& deserved) to be! John's vote total was MMCCCXLI (2,341 votes) & his term of office was from October MCMLXXXIX-October MCMXCII (October 1989-1992) Anno Domini.

VIII. A loving uncle, brother, & friend to his family, the great Day family. A strong member & elder of the Catholic faith.

IX. A solid drinking buddy who could discuss political machinations, all the way down II National Hockey League (NHL) historical stats. Plus, he actually was interested in whatever you were talking about. He also knew how to feign interest if he wasn't interested & segway into a totally unrelated topic if he wanted to get out of a conversation. He was so good that only I & a few select others he had shown knew about it. But he was never rude so folks he didn't want to engage in chats with never knew that they were being played, an amazing political skill!

X. A member of the "Stop Hate 2000" group, a group trying to stop the hatred that was spewing out aganst, gay, lesbian, bisexual, & transgendered persons through conversations & articles promoting peace & non violence, sort of "Gandhiesque" in style.

The Honourable Stockwell Day

May XVIth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA
Minister of Education,
Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

With his endorsement of the British Columbia (B. C.) Liberals, Stockwell Day & with his comment "its what we're seeing on the ground" (meaning when the Premier, Christy Clark comes out to campaign Liberal poll numbers go up b/c she's talking about the economy & not avoiding answers like NDP Leader of the Opposition Adrian Dix was. As with everything Stockwell Day does, he is quite competent a gamesman in politics. Plus, political science students, hell no one can predict a B. C. election result (not even the pollsters apparently, haha!)

- Stockwell Day was an excellent Alberta MLA & cabinet minister, including Provincial Treasurer for the late Premier Ralph Klein.

- Stockwell Day rose to become leader of the Canadian Alliance, defeating neocon bigwig Preston Manning.

- Stockwell Day after losing his leadership to Stephen Harper became a great shadow cabinet critic & then loyal & very competent & capable cabinet minister & British Columbia MP for Mr. Harper once the federal Conservatives took office as Her Majesty's Government & Mr. Harper became Prime Minister in MMVI.

Yes political science students, pay attention to Stockwell Day. He had his friends, & he certainly had his enemies, but in power, he knew how to get the job done!

Collegiate Aspergers Syndrome Day

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #203, 8912-156 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5R 5Z2

May XVth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

As a person & a former post-secondary student with aspergers syndrome, I know just how difficult we aspy's can be at times, even rather overbearing & annoying. Yes we are good people who are really engaged in every topic we discuss, but it does take a lot of effort to deal with us. This is why I am glad to hear the universities, colleges, trade schools schools & other learning institutions are putting in extra efforts to help us afflicted with this disorder so that we can truly learn. The sooner students with aspys learn how much effort it is to put up with them, the sooner that they can try & change/adjust their behaviours to adjust to society's normal standards.

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Dear Jeff:

Thank you very much for ramming this Bill XX down the remaining school boards & teacher unions throats! Why in the hell if 99.5% + of the negotiating unions & boards are in favour of the agreement should such a small minority be able to hold up valuable labour progress & peace which can only be of help to Alberta's students? I thought the boards & unions believed in majority rules, seems like some ATA bargaining units believe in the communist doctrine of mind control of only helping themselves & no one else. Also why do teachers get all summers off & holidays like Easter Monday as a statuatory holiday on top of their pd days? Nobody in the private sector gets Easter Monday off, this isn't fair!

Anyway, best of luck with your remaining legwork in ensuring that the provinces teachers (& therefore by extension students) are treated fairly.

Having Absolute Respect IV Judge Made Law

Edmonton, Alberta T5R 5Z2

May XIth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA
Minister of Education,
Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Some fear that justice was not served when Court of Queen's Bench Justice Brian R. Burrows released a teen who at one point confessed to a double murder. But the police services used coercion & admitted that they pressured the teen to confess, having zero DNA evidence against him. Students of the law have II know that Mr. Justice Burrows was 100% in the right to release the teen & encourage the Crown prosecutors to drop all charges, which they did so immediately.

The police & prosecutors didn't the legal, or even ethically stick with the playbook. Even if the teen actually committed the II murders (which he didn't), better to let him go & walk the streets than not uphold the spirit & the intent of the law. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) & investigators in each & every investigation need II be held just as accountable as the "alleged" accused. If not, then students who want to become judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, & the police/investigators of the future court system will turn away, disgusted at its corruption & lack of real justice.

Excellent Work Brian,

May Xth, MMXIIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Dear Jeff:

Here especially IV my nephews is a really cool picture of Autobot Leader Optimus Prime. Now speaking of "Prime," I have had several readers of the blog & students wonder why I end titles & sentences with "Prime" in some entries. Well, I am quite embarrassed & ashamed over my mathematical faults with number orders & numbers themselves, so I say & write "Prime" to remind myself of which numbers are "prime" numbers in mathematics & which ones are not.

Also, I have been asked by history fans why I use Roman Numerals IV my dating & multiple blog day tracking. Well, I do this IV the same reason, I cannot count past the number "30" in numbers, never could (& yet still have my Math 30 (XXX) go figure.) So when I hit "30", I count "XXX" & then convert the letters back to numbers. In this format of lining up & counting the letters instead I feel more comfortable math wise. Its a horrid disorder, but I as always have come up with a way of combating it. And as my nephews would say: "Just like Optimus Prime would Uncle Rory!"

May VIIIth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

In your haste to ensure that High School Diploma Examinations for this great province are available to take in a digital format, don't IVget to also go "old school" or "Classic Spock" as I am fond of saying. There are students with developmental disability's, or slight cognitive disfunction such as myself who couldn't even consider writing a Diploma Exam on computer, we would not feel comfortable in doing so Jeff. Also, handwriting lets a student & the grading teacher(s) see the student's thought process in real time, as they wrote in uncut & unedited in original broadcast format! So please guarantee me (a man with CCCXXXVII (337) credits) who has written almost every Diploma Exam under the sun that you will still have physical paper backup copies IV those students who feel more comfortable with a pen, pencil, or other such writing utensil under pressure, rather than having to type in a computer. Her Majesty's Government & Its Department of Education I hope sees the necessity of this!

So three women & the daughter one of them was forced to have with one of their captors were freed after being kidnapped for a decade from a Cleveland, Ohio house yesterday. What great news, two of the women XIV (14) & XVI (16) when kidnapped. So they never really got a chance to grow up & have a normal educational life. What of the VI (6) year old little girl? That poor little thing has never known anything but terror & captivity in her short life. I am so glad these fine ladies are all free. Great work by the Cleveland Police Department, 911 operator, & the neighbor, Charles Ramsey who kicked in the door II free the ladies.

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

So a V year old boy accidentally killed his II year old sister with a .XXII (.22) calibre rifle given to him as a present (with real bullitts.) The question I have is, why in the hell are gun manufacturers allowed to design guns made smaller in size & marketed to children, & why are retailers allowed to sell such guns? This young lad & his parents must feel very bad, but why when the child might not even be out of diapers yet & is just barely through Kindergarten is he allowed to own a gun?

This boy cannot drive a car, vote, drink, do drugs, hell, he cannot even make his own breakfast.Yet he is allowed to own & fire a gun. This is an insane world! I cannot imagine this family's anguish!

A Post-It Note

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Dear Jeff:

Students who might be working summer jobs IV Canada Post need to realize just how important regular mail delivery is, even in this digital age. Sure more & more things can be sent by say fax, courier, or even by email. But even though the post office loses millions a year, people still rely it to send letters to family, & friends. As well as other things like gifts, & even monies in emergency's if say a relative/friend can't work due to a medical condition & say needs a cheque or money order mailed to them.

Just as I write this blog to you daily by email Jeff, you will notice that I write it in the form of a daily letter(s.) There is nothing like that personal touch. This is why its important IV students II remember to include their proper mailing address (including postal code if known whenever they send out mail.) In this way, carriers can get their mail delivered in a timely response & thus get them letters & packages mailed back to the writer/sender back in an equally timely manner.

Rory

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Dear Jeff:

Wildrose leader Danielle Smith is right on! Having been at the Premier's announcement on education yesterday, I feel that it was inappropriate IV her II slag the Wildrose Party by name, especially in front of young children in a school setting. If the Premier believes that what her government or PC MLA's are doing so is a better educational option then let her instead state that "we feel the opposition is wrong here" & "that we as a government can do better."

Using general tems for Her Majesty's Government &/or Her Majesty's Loyal Official Opposition makes it so the Premier is not so vicious in tone & thus makes her comments against Wildrose not seem so partisan.

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Its a pity you weren't here at the Edmonton schools infrastructure announcement, but led by Minister of Infrastructure Hon. Wayne Drysdale, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Grande Prairie-Wapiti        & the Premier, the Hon. Alison Redford, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Calgary-Elbow (who looked stunning in her dress) & a bevy of Edmonton area PC MLA's, the event was a huge success. They included the Hon. Dave Hancock, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Whitemud & the Minister of Human Services, Stephen Khan, MLA, Progressive Conservative, St. Albert, Matt Jeneroux, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Southwest, Dave Quest, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Strathcona-Sherwood Park, the Minister of Culture, the Hon. Heather Klimchuk, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Glenora (my MLA so she's my favourite), the Minister of Finance & President of the Treasury Board, the Hon. Doug Horner, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Spruce Grove-St. Albert, George Rogers, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Leduc-Beaumont, & my great friend Naresh Bhardwaj, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Ellerslie. School board trustees & civic administrators were also there, a truly welcoming atmosphere!

Beforehand, a class of Grade VI & Kindergarten school kids from the school were acting as buddies, with the older kids mentoring the Kindergarten kids. Thus the kids learn about being responsible for a youngster & the Kindergarten kids get youth aged heroes to look up to, admire, & respect. I sat in the school library beIV the announcement as they were read a story outloud by a school staffer. Then got encouraged to read it out loud themselves. So a trip to the library was both educational & fun for them!

Dear Jeff:

I do not know exactly what is wrong with the Italian justice system. Former foreign student Amanda Knox was acquitted on appeal in the case of the murder of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher. She spent IV years in an Italian prison while the trial processes went on. There was never any DNA evidence linking her to the crime & her alibi IV being somewhere else at the time of the crime 100% checks out & can be confirmed by multiple party's. Yet the Italian courts wish to retry Miss Knox. Why not spend the time trying actual murderers or finding the actual killer(s) of Miss Kercher rather than wasting buckets more monies from the Italian treasury?

Superb wedding planning by pregnant socialite Kim Kardashian & her boyfriend & daddy of her baby to be, the talented rapper/artist Kanye West. Having bigger upholstered longe chairs in kids sections of library branches makes great sense. In this way, kids of a younger nature who are nervous can snuggle up to mom or dad, thus relaxing both themselves & their parent. Then the adult can relax, think, & study while at the same time comforting the child.

Seeing as the AUPE Executive knew in advance their strike was illegal & yet still went out, perhaps a mandated refresher course on the Alberta Courts System for the executive & union heads at their own expense might just be in order. I just want to wish you the best of luck in your funding announcement of new schools in the Calgary area today. I guess some will be public, & some private, a really unneccessary duplication I might add b/c if we had one system, we'd only need half as many trustees & administrators. As a result of this, more funds would then go directly II the students themselves! Glad you picked the community of Saddle Ridge, I hear its quite a pleasant place II be!

I'd like to see newspaper & other media outlets get their historical dates right. Sarah O'Donnell of The Edmonton Journal had former Premier Don Getty being listed as having been in office from 1986-1992. This is clearly inaccurate, b/c even if its just a few weeks, Premier Getty took office as Premier from the retiring E. Peter Lougheed in November 1985, not at any timeframe in 1986.

Don Cherry of Hockey Night In Canada (HNIC) on CBC is entitled to his opinion. He might be almost 80, but Don is right in a way. Why are female reporters allowed inII male athlete changerooms & male reporters are not allowed inII female changerooms? Arguably, males interviewing female athletes will get boys excited about being reporters & girls excited that males think so highly of these lady athletes that they want to interview them. This will inspire them to become students of athleticism & better their overall physical health in school. Thus being Canada's athletes of future eras!

As a newly minted security professional (having taken the Alberta course accreditation online), I must say I respect the strikers belief that there are security concerns. However, I have absolutely no respect IV them or IV sheriffs who openly break the law & defy the court system that they are sworn to protect. This is why I am glad the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) was knifed with a heavy fine! How does this lack of respect IV the law & judicial orders to quit their striking give confidence to students who might want to be security professionals in the future? Answer: IT DOESN'T!
