Perhaps We Need II Build A Firewall Around Professor Flanagan

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #203, 8912-156 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5R 5Z2

February XXVIIIth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

So conservative leaning operative Tom Flanagan says that in certain circumstances its his feeling that he has "grave doubts" about jailing people who view child ponography. I IV one disagree & as my title indicates, maybe we should build a firewall around Professor Flanagan. I for one would rather pick up a flaming bag of human excrement than shake the hand of this man who is obviously lower than flaming bags of excrement on the human nature scale of indecency. Plus, he made these remarks in an academic setting, what kind of example is this II send to the students & educators of the future?

Marvin Gardens

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin.
#203, 8912-156 Street
Edmonton, Alberta T5R 5Z2

February XXVIIth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA
Minister of Education,
Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

For those students interested in architecture, building design, repair, & home remodelling/repair, I cannot do better that recommend that they take an online tour of Marven Gardens, a housing district in New Jersey along its famous shoreline that is just beautiful. The houses are Dutch Colonial, Mission/Spanish Revival, & Tudor Revival in style. Many of the houses are original & have been stored II their original glory, & still others can be had IV reasonable prices IV the designer/remodeller to build to their own standards/tastes. Folks could certainly make a good profit here as its a very famous part of New Jersey, having these three property names as part of the Parker Bros. board game "Monopoly."

Historical students need to take note that "Marven" with an "e" is the correct spelling, & Parker Bros. acknowledged this to residents when it was first released as "Marvin" with an "i." The error was never corrected as thats what buyers were used to. But getting used to design, say taking courses in architecture, architectural technology, design, drafting, & engineering IV instance will put potential home owners on the path II truly being happy in their abode & making it their own. Another option is II be a carpenter or other such tradesman. Having technical & labour skills will allow IV easier repairs &/or maintenance of your chosen home & its surrounding grounds.

Senators That Should Be Homeless

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #203, 8912-156 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5R 5Z2

February XXVIth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Senators Mike Duffy, Conservative, Prince Edward Island, Patrick Brazeau, Independent, Quebec, & Mac Harb, Liberal, Ontario give me a lot more respect IV homeless people. There are students & their family's who are homeless due II economic circumstances through no fault of their own. Then these III jerks who only work half the year (or way less in Sen. Brazeau's case, still healing from his ass-kicking by Justin Trudeau, MP, Liberal, Papineau.) They claim these extravagant housing allowances IV living in their supposed IInd residences in Ottawa when in fact they are living in these residences full time instead of actually residing in the province they represent.

Most people, in fact almost all working people & even executives do not get extra money on top of their salary's (whether they be hourly or annually), I for one do not see why MP's & Senators do, especially as their salaries are 1/3rd tax free. Yes they make sacrifices as they are away from their family's & they have to have II residences. But we give them pensions that are beyond sick in value, especially when you consider how poor pension plans are for many other Canadians. These III Senators should be forced to work in homeless shelters as volunteers by their respective party leaders, I cannot believe their arrogance!

Dear Jeff:

I am inside the new Jasper Place Branch Edmonton Public Library (EPL) right now as you can see. Its family fun, with lots of kids of all ages here. The design is quite open & welcoming, the staff is very helpful, & its a beautiful building by architect Gene Dub (who also designed Edmonton's City Hall) with hot pink front windows & a nice ambience about it. This will definitely be a great place IV students II study!

Its Rather Overwhelming

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #203, 8912-156 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5R 5Z2

February XXIVth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Some studies indicate a high turnover of teachers as they are burnt out from their jobs due to lack of extra pay IV extracurricular activities. Many teachers I guess are quitting within III-V years of getting their degrees. I would argue many teachers are overpaid, particularly here in Alberta. We pay our teachers XX% more than Ontario teachers. Why is that? All provincial civil servants & politicians & teachers & doctors should be forced II take a XX% pay cut so that we can deal with deficit crisis. I don't feel sorry IV them.

In negotiations now, teachers want more benefits & are willing to take a wage freeze in year one of any new deal with you &/or through negotiated settlements at the individual board level. I live on a medical pension & work temporary contract work through no fault of my own & just barely get by. I work a lot harder at these jobs than many teachers & I don't ask my employers or the agencies IV raises. Many only pay just over minimum wage, basically starvation wages. Many private firms don't give their employees even cost of living increases each year, yet alone bonuses as they are struggling II stay afloat.

Teachers Should Look At Giving Back Not Just Getting Ridiculous Wage Increases So As To Be Closer To Society's Living Standards,

Rory

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Congrats to Mrs. Edith Parsons & the entire Jasper Place Public Library Branch team as they close their satellite branch at the end of business today & make their way back to 9010-156 Street. Its right where they belong, just north of Meadowlark Mall & my present location here in an apartment suite at The Renaissance, which is right next door. As with everything Edmonton Public Library's (EPL) does, the service at the temporary location was immaculate under Mrs. Parsons stewardship & I know that the learning process for students of all ages will continue back in their new (old) location on Monday, February XXVth at 10AM.

Dear Jeff:

I certainly applaud Premier Alison Redford's (Progressive Conservative, Calgary-Elbow) initiative in going down to the American capital II sell our oil & other petroleum products. As well as getting the Keystone approval kickstarted by pressuring state governors & other officials. Students need to see that networking truly works. Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Dear Jeff:

Just as I do when I write you a letter a day, every day of the year in this blog on education, students need to realize the value of letter writing. If students take up pen to paper & mail in, or type, or, email, or fax newspapers & other periodicals on issues of concern II them, some of those letters will invariably be published. As a result, student voices will be heard & discussions can start among both the school & general populations on how II fix problems in society of an educational nature. The editors of newspaper letters are important people in getting voices heard & should be respected greatly!

Dear Jeff:

Let us hope that the new Minister of Enterprise & Advanced Education, the Hon. Thomas Lukaszuk, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Castledowns thinks long & hard beIV considering the closure of Athabasca University, a truly great school. You of course know all this as its smack dab in the middle of your riding. People like Mayor Melissa Blake of Fort McMurray & The Wood Buffalo Regional Municipality & myself have Bachelor of Administration degrees from there. As do many other Alberta students in all manner of educational fields, as do students worldwide for whom a classroom setting like the University Of Alberta is not possible. Say they have jobs & cannot afford to leave them II live here. Education should not have barriers just b/c a person is not in the same classroom as an instructor physically. As your predecessor as Minister of Education, Thomas has the focus to accomplish this rejigging. Plus Thomas has a teaching degree, so really understands the mindset of today's educators.

Lets Us Hope IV The Best,

February XVth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

It seems that school closure issues are happening all over Alberta. In Ft. McMurray, Ft. McMurray Catholic School Division has gone to a IV day week just over a year ago to save on costs. Now you have Ft. McMurray Public School District & its Board Chair, Mr. Jeff Thompson considering the same situation. I don't agree that this is a wise move. It would be like having a Ft. Knox situation in Ft. McMurray wherein the schools are locked up IV an extra day, thus shutting students out from the best education possible when in fact, schools should become more accessible & not less.

Sure you might save on some school bus transport costs, & maybe administratively by eliminating part time staff. In the end however, the school utility's still have to be paid on the extra day the buildings are closed, so why not make maximum use out of them? The standard business week is Monday-Friday for hard working Ft. McMurray family's, particularly in the oil business. What happens to these fine folks & their children when they cannot arrange IV proper child care/student activity's on each & every Friday? Do they have to take time off work themselves & lose wages as a result?

Dear Jeff:

Having just watched all V (5) "Die Hard" films at ScotiaBank WEM Cineplex Odeon Theatres in a "Die Hard Marathon", I can truly say I appreciate the focus on the safety of students. In particular, "Die Hard With A Vengeance", the IIIrd film. In this picture, terrorists have planted a bomb in one of New York City's Public Schools. The terrorist leader gives the clue "XXI (21) of XLII (42)" which signifies the XXIst U.S. President, Chester A. Arthur, Republican-New York. So the police worked together with fire & other safety officials to get the students out of the school by saying it was a "special fire drill." In this way, they kept calm, & kept the students calm in thinking they were practicing a safe & fun activity.

Dear Jeff:

Miss Ruth Ellen Brosseau, MP, New Democrat, Berthier-Maskinonge, the Deputy Agriculture Critic IV her party has turned into quite an effective performer. A last minute fill in candidate in a Francophone riding in the MMXI federal election, Miss Brosseau won & I can truly say has exceeded expectations as a Parliamentarian. I mean who better II advocate for students & children overall than a working single mother? Miss Brosseau was a barmaid of all things beIV entering public life. I think this is great as our parliamentary democracy should have individuals from all walks of life representing it, from working class all the way to professionals such as lawyers. This gives it a better socioeconomic cross section or fabric of individuals who will represent people's needs.

Recently, Miss Brosseau had information of a personal nature stolen from a computer hard drive, including her Canada Student Loan data for which she used towards her tuition in MMII at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario. Seems like she'd be a great advocate IV increased cyber safety IV students.

February Xth, MMXIII

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA

Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

The Honourable John Baird, PC, MP, Conservative, Ottawa-West Nepean is quite the effective MP IV the education file IV children & adult students. He brings a wealth of cabinet experience to the federal cabinet as he also served as an Ontario cabinet minister. In addition to helping the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, B. A., M. A., PC, MP, Conservative, Calgary-Southwest in the promotion of animal adoptions through the Ottawa Humane Society (with a focus on cats, a healthy thing to promote to family's with children), Minister Baird at one point served as Minister of Children, Community & Social Services provincially. This gave him an understanding that the needs of Ontario's children are important as they would be the future leaders of that province, & wherever else in Canada they might choose to reside & start their own careers & family's in.

He is now Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, & as such, he creates the diplomatic channels & relations Her Majesty's Government needs to make business & trade deals that will ensure the economic future of students graduating across Canada today. He is smart, forthright, quite an attack dog in the House of Commons Chamber. One thing is for sure, no one can say that he doesn't get the job done for the Prime Minister, & for the students of this fine Dominion.

Dear Jeff:

Ms. Niki Ashton, B. A., M. A., MP, New Democrat, Churchill is quite an extraordinary young lady. Just XXX (30) years old now, last year at the very young age of XXIX (29), she ran IV the leadership of the Federal New Democratic Party. An amazing accomplishment, while she lost to Monsieur Mulcair, she held her own in debates & certainly brought womens & social issues II the forefront, a great role model indeed IV females wanting II run IV office themselves some day. Niki shows just how important the female perspective is in terms of legislation & holding the current government, as well as her fellow opposition party members to account.

Niki is great on the educational front as she has in the past been a university lecturer & researcher. In addition, she speaks English, Spanish, Greek, & French fluently, so she is quite an asset on the linguistic & immigrant files for her caucus. Her degrees include a B. A. from the University Of Manitoba in Political economy, as well as an M. A. in International Affairs from Carleton University, & also took post-secondary courses in Hong Kong.

The Honourable Ralph Goodale, LL. B., PC, MP, Liberal, Wascana is quite a great go to fellow. Ralph served as provincial Liberal Leader IV the Saskatchewan Liberals, later he also went onto serve as Minister of Agriculture & Agrifood, & other portfolios such as Minister of Finance under successive Liberal Prime Ministers Jean Chretien & Paul Martin.

As a lawyer specializing in agricultural issues & having been born & raised a farmer, Ralph is really handy b/c he could use his University Of Saskatchewan law degree to make the lives of farmers better throughout his province. This also goes IV their children, who were students at the time Ralph entered politics & are the farmers of the next generation. Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Ottawa based lawyer, Mr. David Bertschi seems likes a pretty level headed guy. David not only practices law, but endears himself to the legal student community by teaching courses at Carleton University (& many other groups) in insurance & business law. Sounds like he'd be an excellent legal mind & strong for the Grits on the justice & business files if he became leader.

Seems We Have IX Great Educational Grit Leadership Candidates,

Rory

Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Karen McCrimmon brings an interesting perspective to the national Grit leader's race. As a former Royal Canadian Air Force member, she would be strong on defense & making sure Canada's Armed Forces personnel received only the best of the best. Its not just from the perspective that she is a woman who can make female personnel seem more equal, but that she has an actual inside track by having served, she can make armed forces life seem like a great choice IV both girls & boys. These are the students who may decide on a military career at a future juncture. Karen made it all the way to Lt. Colonel, & was the first female to ever command a squadron, thus proving to females that they can go just as far as any man in military life (which is wonderful!) After leaving the military, she went back to school as an adult & took courses in mediation & negotiation.

Sounds Like Karen Is An Honourable Soldier,

Rory

Dear Jeff:

Mr. George Takach, B. A., LL. B., J. A., M. A. seems like an interesting fellow. A lawyer like Martha Hall-Findlay & several other candidates, he specializes in technological law, which is great as we need people in leadership who are up II date on the latest technological issues facing students in schools today. Mr. Takach is an adjunct law professor at the Osgoode School of Law at York University. This gives him great knowledge as to what students on campus are thinking today. He can use these post-secondary questions II make their lives better.

A Wise Man,

Rory

Dear Jeff:

Immigrants like my father are what makes this Dominion proud. I see that Mrs. Joyce Murray, MBA, MP, Liberal, Vancouver-Quadra, Federal Liberal Leadership candidate has the educational touch. Representing former Liberal Prime Minister, The Rt. Hon. John Turner, PC, QC's riding, Joyce has a Master's of Business Administration in Environmental Stewardship. Truly a woman with a great environmental background who also can serve as an example of a strong business example of leadership to the business students of the future.

Mrs. Murray Immigrated From South Africa,

Rory
