Dear David:

The hallways were abuzz today at the West End Seniors Activity Centre as seniors and their care workers/advocates watched me & the set up crew get ready IV tomorrow's IInd round of balloting in the PC Alberta Leadership Race. Its like the seniors were first time voting students as they asked me questions about the names of the remaining candidates & how the preferential ballot system worked. I mentioned they could mark the ballot "1" & "2" to indicate their first & second choices or just "1" if they felt they really had no second choice to vote IV. This just proves there are students of democracy at all ages!

Dear David:

So Maple Batalia, a Sikh immigrant & young Canadian actress who starred in"Diary of a Wimpy Kid" was found dead Wednesday near an entrance of the Surrey, British Columbia campus of Simon Fraser University. I saw this film & the young lady was quite the delight. But here she is, only XIX (19) & struck down in her prime by gunshot wounds. I just cannot imagine how horrified her parents must feel, as well as her siblings. Here their daughter was just trying to get an education & she cannot even be safe on a post-secondary campus. Totally appalling, security needs II be beefed up at schools, from playschools all the way to post-secondary institutions.

Dear David:

There are questions in regards II access to literature & information IV students. Whether in book, newspaper, leaflet, &/or in an online format such as a Blackberry (TM), Apple (TM) Ipad, laptop, or regular computer terminal. Regarding copyright law, we need to make sure that not only are merchants paid IV material, but we also need II strike a balance & make sure students have easy access to materials IV study purposes. With the anchor of "The National", Mr. Peter Mansbridge now being the Chancellor of Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, we have an educator presenting this story in a professional broadcast. Chancellor Mansbridge, not a post-secondary graduate (except with Honourary Doctorates) can serve as a positive force IV consumers (which include students) respecting copyright & trademark infringement laws by airing constant updates as to current rules & upcoming federal legislation.

Dear David:

While I agree with StopTheCuts.Ca in principle, i can understand what a stressful situation you & Edward Michael have been in with the lower tax revenues: in particular from oil & gas resources. That being said, Edward Michael had no business saying the teachers were hijacking things & being unreasonable on wages. In affect, he knifed you in the back. Especially when you consider it was you & he who negotiated the current contract together with administrators that doesn't even expire until August XXXIst, MMXIII. Teachers gave up many concessions to get that pension liability paid off. Plus, it was the premier who reached out with the negotiation to pay it off. So he shouldn't be bitching when revenues fall.

Dear David:

Once again from Executive Director Pat Godkin all the way to me, the lowest volunteer on the totem pole did an excellent job at the IInd Edmonton-Advance Poll. I did not work the last one due to a family committment, but I did sit in as a PC Party volunteer II make sure no one monkeyed around with the ballot boxes. It was an exercise in democracy, we had students aglow that they could get an extra hour off from school to go vote with their parents together as a family. This bonding was wonderful to see, then we had the renewed sense of democracy when the Premier & Mrs. Getty came into vote. The old quarterback knows the political game cold & might be able to toss a few strategic moves to Ricky Ray & the current Edmonton Eskimos. Yes it was quite an exciting time & the look of voter satisfaction on the face of young voters to me was the most priceless of all.

There's a study group here of teens letting younger kids read to them. They are making it seem like the young students are helping them with their reading. Not realizing that the teens are just encouraging the kids in their enunciation & their excitement of reading. By making the young kids seem like the teachers, they feel extra special & then are gaining new friends among the teens who can be their study buddies in the future.

Having just left the Campaign Office of Candidate Gary Mar, I left with the feeling of being truly impressed. Here we have students of all ages, from elementary, right up through to post-secondary working IV Gary. Because Gary's family is of a Chinese-Canadian background, we have an eclectic mix of volunteers from different socio-economic backgrounds & nations. There's Employment & Immigration Minister Thomas Lukaszuk, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Castledowns (a Polish immigrant) all the way II me, born here, but a dual Dutch citizen as well. By the way, extremely proud of that. Mr. Mar if elected our Leader can be a shining example to immigrants & their family's that if they work hard, they can be "the best of the best" & obtain the top job in this great Province.

Plus, having a Chinese-Canadian Premier will allow the PC Party to siphon votes in the Asian community to a bigger degree than ever beIV. A Premier-Elect Mar could act as a role model IV future Alberta students that if they work hartd, no matter what their race & creed, they can be a shining example of a civil servant (or whatever vocation they choose) & make this Dominion of Canada even better a place than it already is!

Ladies And Gentleman: The President Of The United States

September XXIVth, MMXI

Hon. David G. Hancock, QC, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Whitemud

Dear David:

Last night on History Television, a documentary aired that stated that the assassin of the XVIth President (Abraham Lincoln), John Wilkes Booth may have survived on IV XL years under different aliases. That the body dragged out of the barn and autopsied on a Union Navy Naval Destroyer was another person, a Wilkes Booth stand in who sacrificed himself as an agent of the United States Government to make the Administration of XVIIth President Andrew Johnson look like a hero in capturing his predecessor's killer so easily.

At Walter Reed U.S. Army Hospital, spinal column samples exist from the burned body (supposedly of Wilkes Booth) pulled out of the barn. Edgar Booth, brother of John is buried in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Why not exhume him & compare DNA samples? If the DNA matches, then it would prove the U.S. Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton did not falsify the capture & death of Wilkes Booth. If however the DNA doesn't match, then history textbooks need II be rewritten & school exercise books & videos updated.

Its Presidential history & the descendants of President Lincoln deserve to know the truth. If Wilkes Booth survived, then history must be changed. For the very sake & honor of the Presidency itself & IV historical accuracy. Now all we need is a U.S. Federal Judge with a little courage!

Executive Order Number Four-Hundred & Thirty-Eight,

Why I do not agree with journalist Eleanor Clift of Newsweek Magazine & most of her liberal democratic views, I respect her right to speak them. When the XLIVth President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has II go beIV a Joint Session of Congress & ask IV money IV public schools & new school construction, its embarrassing. It wouldn't be so sad but Barry was not just asking, he was begging. We have a Congress in the U.S. thats intent on screwing over the poor, making the rich richer, & continuing on two wars that are totally unwinnable & have bankrupted the U.S,. taxpayer to the tune of trillions. Well over a billion dollars a week now (thats whats admitted to.) And all this b/c they hate Barry & his more "liberal" agenda. Whats worse is that the Liberal Democrats are hating Barry just as badly as the Conservative Republicans, albeit IV different reasons. Why can't the two sides just get together & work IV the future students of America instead of just trying to destroy eachother?

Dear David:

Seems to me rather funny that anyone would vote IV Candidate Alison Redford. Here she is promising to restore the educational funding cutbacks that she favoured while in cabinet as Justice Minister. I'd think that either Candidate Doug Horner, a strong proponent of post-secondary learning as a former Advanced Education Minister or Candidate Gary Mar would be a better choice to ensure educational fairness. After all, Candidate Mar as a Canadian of Chinese descent can make sure that immigrants & those of minority status would be able to get an equal chance at a proper educational foundation. The best way to vote it seems strategically anyway is Horner, Mar or Mar, Horner.

Corporal Punishment

September XXIInd, MMXI

Hon. David G. Hancock, QC, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Whitemud

Dear David:

On Cable News Network's (CNN's) "Anderson Cooper 360", Reporter Gary Tuchman went down to Chesterton, Indiana to investigate possible abuses at a religious school. From the Pastor on down, the school is rife with coverup. Indiana State Authority's cannot legally investigate corporal punishment school beatings as religious groups are totally self-regulated & above the law b/c they have sole power over whether or & what kind of beating a student will receive.

Beating of kids is wrong, maybe corporal punishment is legal David, but those doling out the punishment must strike a balance & make sure they do not try & cause bleeding & other injuries. Students have rights, in this situation, students XVIII years old were being beaten. The religious school administrators should keep in mind that they have no business touching an adult student. Then allowing these students to be raped, tortured, as well as beaten in order to keep them silent so they can keep on beating new classes of students.

Frankly Thats Just Wrong David,

Rory

Now Vitor is on a different track. He is running under the Wildrose Alliance banner IV the Senate Of Canada. This is a candidacy I strongly endorse. If Vitor gets elected, he would do very well for this great Dominion Of Canada. If I can get a hold of him after the PC Alberta Leader's race is over, I'll gladly give him a financial contribution. I say Go Vitor Go. Pay attention to Vitor's candidacy students, he's a man of conviction & will do wonders IV Danielle Smith on the federal scene. Steve Harper should definitely appoint him if he gets elected to a Senatorial term of office.

Dear David:

Thank goodness my main man Principal Ron Bradley & the students of Ross Sheppard High School are all right. Carbon monoxide is one hell of a serious business. Heck, poisoning of any kind is bad. Students & anyone who get poisoned could suffer weak immune systems, all the way to internal injuries & even death. I am shall we say ecstatic that none of these precious youngsters were injured or killed. Ross Shep is an excellent High School & has many academic & athletic achievements to the credit of its student body. Not to forget to of course mention the great teachers, counsellors, and coaching staffs behind those students.

Dear David:

I am taking a job retraining course by correspondence through a St. Albert school thats affiliated with the Government Of Canada & Government Of Alberta on training. I want to give a shout out to the staff here at the Employment Centre as they got me out of a jam. My next module is due by 6PM this evening & unfortunately, my scanner broke. Luckily, I came down here & explained the situation to the staff. They were gracious enough to let me use their fax so I wouldn't have to drive all the way to St. Albert. It was XXIII pages, so I really appreciate their efforts. The staff was happy to oblige as it was a job related fax and the fax was quiet since its lunch hour anyway. So I just lucked out. Plus my teacher sent me an email that she received the fax in its entirety.

The concept of volunteerism is very big. Dear David:

The vote IV PC Leader was quite fascinating, of course people have the right not to participate. Alas I am however sickened that 40,000+ less members voted IV our next Leader. When people do not take part, democracy fails. In the voting station that I co-ran in Edmonton-Meadowlark, it was a true democratic exercise as I had several XVI year old students voting for their first time, all the way to Former Premier Donald Ross Getty & his blushing bride Margaret. Don knows the importance of the "game concept." Even after XIX years out of the big chair, he knows that as a senior student of politics, he must participate fully until his dying breath. So, walker & all, Don & Margaret came in to keep democracy & the concept of good leadership in government secure.

The Edmonton Public Library (EPL) has a ton of great programming IV this fall at locations citywide. I as you know David am a real softie for animals & love the idea that kids are being taught to be responsible. Dear David:

It was a nice clean exercise for students of parliamentary democracy yeserday with the PC vote in Round one. Leaving us with Candidates Doug Horner, Gary Mar, & Alison Redford. Although PC Party members should be ashamed that only 59,000 of them voted. Considering all of the money, time, & resources that candidates have spent on this race, that figure was an embarrassment quite frankly (down from 97,000 in MMVI.)

That being said, its still VI.Vx more than voted in the Alberta Liberal Leader's race. So we should encourage students of all ages to vote in Round two on October Ist. I think its great that XVI year old kids can vote in our Leader's race, as well as permanent residents. This gives our leadership a really great feel of having a multicultural voice. Yesterday in mt polling station of Edmonton-Meadowlark, we had people voting all the way from XVI year old students, right up to the Former Premier Don Getty & his gorgeous bride Margaret.

Thanks IV Voting Everyone,

Rory

Dear David:

Students of the "comedy business" know how rough a game it is to get into. In show business, as in all business, people must try over & over again before they succeed. This is why great comedy clubs like "The Comedy Factory" (owned by a Mr. Bob Angeli here in Edmonton)are a great bellwether IV whether or not someone becomes a star. But there is as the immortal Johnny Carson once said: "there is nothing like seeing a new comedian try out IV the first time." It really excited Mr. Carson, his great friend & sidekick Ed McMahon, as well as Doc Severinsen the bandleader, the orchestra & the whole audience when a new act came out to do raw stand up on "The Tonight Show."

Students of the genre of comedy must remember that stand up is the hardest & purest form of entertainment out there. I have done it a few times & its not IV me. But it may be IV some other people. The thing is, it takes times, rehearsal, patience, as well as constant rewriting & editing. People who are in this game must be respected IV the great artisans that they are!

A fascinating perspective by Jim Lehrer of PBS Television's: "PBS Newshour" on his PBS compatriot's Charlie Rose's show: "Charlie Rose." Not only do candidates IV office have to state what direction they are going in, they have to figure out the right phrasology II explain how they would handle a crisis. Especially important of course if they are running IV the Big Kahuna: The Office Of The President Of The United States of America.

Young people and students who study parliamentary and electoral college politics need to understand that the same thing was on display at the PC Alberta Leadership Forum tonight. He was then transported II the neareast medical facility & will recover fully. Because of the initiative of these wonderful Utah State students & passers by, Brandon is in the land of the living. Hon. David G. Hancock, QC, MLA

Dear David:

While I agree that stripping is a wonderful and legitimate form of body art, I find it rather disheartening that so many students are participating in it. Yes the income derived from it (especially the tax free cash tips) amount to many M's of dollars, and that cash allows students to pay their bills, I find it a sad indictment that post-secondary students have to resort to it. They are adults sure, but they are giving up a piece of innocence by participating in these activity's. Plus, they mostly have to work nights and weekends, times quite frankly when they should be studying and relaxing with friends. As well as networking to look for future employment.

Sure the strippers (mostly female, but male too) are trying the craft for money while their body's are still taught, tight, and still in good physical shape. But they are I believe demeaning themselves and should hold off on the stripping until after their careers in academia are over. I am not against expressionism & nudity, hell, I do not even mind stripping and strip bars, but the years on camps should not be a time for stripping, but instead a time IV knowledge.

Exotically,

Thanks & extreme appreciation to Former U.S. President George Walker Bush IV joining his successor, Current President Barack Hussein Obama on stage at Ground Zero in New York City, New York IV the Xth Anniversary of the September XIth, MMI terrorist attacks. Many lives were lost that day, & many more have been lost in trying to stop & fight any future terrorist attacks. Good or bad, President Bush the Conservative Republican & President Obama the Liberal Democrat must put aside their differences & fight terror together. Osama Bin Laden is dead, as is Saddam Hussein. These are great results, but students of political science & history must remember that until Al-Qaeda & the Taliban have been 100% eliminated, the battle will have to go on XXIV/VII/CCCLXV (CCCLXVI each leap year)/24/7/365 (366 each leap year.)

Congrats to Dr. Gordon Wilkes, MD: a plastic surgeon who works on human patients for donating his time to help fix the cleft pallet of the Journal's Puppycam Dog Keepsake. It was gracious of him & assistant to drive over to the surgical offices of Dr. Amy Miller, DVM: a veterinarian who has her practice in Devon. The teachers are trained educators & not just babysitters. Playing is important, it gives kids a start in life in the beginning stages of their road to academia.

Dear David:

I'm less than an hour from starting a temporary labor shift (the 1st of III) here at Edmonton's Flyer Force in the SE Industrial Business Sector of the city. Its really quite an impressive place to be. The equipment is quite a bit more modern than The Edmonton Journal. Plus, having a mini-tour here early impresses me greatly as employees are asked safety questions every day. Constant repetition of safety measures, & making sure the employees are paid IV this time (even if they are off the production line) thus ensures a higher care & committment to safety. ThereIV, if any students want to work for Flyer Force, they will know in advance if hired that safety is the highest priority, even more so than quality of product. If something goes wrong on the production line, Flyer Force will shut it down immediately rather than risk an employee(s) getting hurt.

Dear David:

If a student(s) living in a residence see verbal, physical (beating &/or sexual), psychological abuse by one adult over another (or a combination of II or III of these) then they should report it to a trusted adult, such as a neighbor or relative. If they are able, these students should tell a law enforcement officer of their troubles. The sooner this is done, the better. There are after all cases where by adult abusers will switch over & start attacking the children in the home once they get tired of wearing down their abused spouse. They quite often do this to let the abused spouse recover a bit from their physical wounds just so they can go after them again.
