Progessive Taxational Thinking

May XIIth, MMX

Hon. David G. Hancock, QC, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Whitemud

Dear David:

It seem II me that this special tax levy plebicite of 20 million per year for 3 years by Trustee Catherine Ripley of Edmonton Public should go ahead. It got voted down, too bad Lyle Oberg made it only allowable during Trustee election years. If the new Vice-Chair of the Board had real courage, she'd propose a joint ad buy/plebicite proposal with Edmonton Catholic. Yes this would cut each boards take (if passed) to 10 million per year. But at the same time, they'd only be out of pocket 1/2 as much in terms of revenue & promoting the fact that there should be a plebicite on the ballot in October MMX.

The Catholic & Public Boards hold combined meetings & do joint activities year round already. So why not expand on this unprecendented cooperation in these times of economic austerity & uncertainty? When you have an administrative building where the letters of the building title are falling off the facade & not being replaced: its time to start taking pride again, try new ideas & learn to cut costs.

Regards,

Rory
