May XXXIst, MMX

Hon. David G. Hancock, QC, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Whitemud

Dear David:

Kudos II a Mr. Garth D. Izzard who writes II the Edmonton Journal on Saturday, May XVth, MMX about being accosted in the downtown Library. What a truly brave person. Obviously Police and Library Security weren't around II help him so he bought people who threatened him food and beverages in the Second Cup at Stanley A. Milner Branch Library, plus gave his hour of computer time one day in order to preserve himself.

Its a situation Mr. Izzard shouldn't have had II face. That no one should have to face. Mr. Izzard's point about opening branch library's year round from 1-5pm makes sense. It makes sense as it will protect students of all ages from being accosted downtown as there will be less personages studying in the downtown branch if suburbian & satellite branches open year round on Sundays. Less customer traffic means less arrests and therefore a more quieter & conducive place to learn (& gain knowledge) downtown on Sundays for patrons who are law abiding.

Regards,

Rory
